DERIVATIVES

Is there a free lunch? Dubious! Is there free CPE? You bet, and it's right here!

This site was developed by the CPA School of Washington, Inc. and it provides four hours of totally free CPE. The site is intended to give something free, gratis, for nothing (or less), to our students and our friends in the Institute of Management Accountants and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs. If you don't fall in one of these categories but are interested in Accounting or Finance, we consider you our friend and you are welcome to enter these premises and be our guest.

All three of the organizations mentioned above maintain websites and you will find it useful and interesting to visit their websites. At the website of the CPA School of Washington, you will find all sorts of information about inportant credentials in the professions of accounting and finance including the CPA and the CMA (Certified Management Accountant). You can also get information about CPE (Continuing Professional Education) for these professions.

The Greater Washington Society of CPAs is the primary professional organization for Certified Public Accountants in Washington, DC and its suburbs. Its website has a great deal of information about the accounting profession both locally and nationally and also contains job listings. (The author of the website you are now visiting, John Coughlan, has been a happy member of the GWSCPAs for many years and has served on its Board of Governors. Try it, you'll like it!)

The Institute of Management Accountants is a national organization with approximately 70,000 members in the USA and other countries. This is the organization that sponsors the CMA designation. It has a number of local chapters throughout the US including the Nation's Capital Chapter (of which your host, John, is a long-time active member) By visiting the web site you can obtain information about social and educational activities.

To get your four hours of free CPE, two steps are required.

You must get a score of at least seven (7) on the ten mutliple choice questions. Assuming your score is at least that good, you can click on the appropriate button and get a printout of your CPE "slip" for four recommended hours of CPE.

This CPE deals with derivatives, a subject of considerable current and future importance in the fields of accounting and finance. You'll find the material interesting and the final questions easy. It's fun! Get started now!

BECOME A CPA or CMA

We have a variety of courses that can help you improve your credentials and move up the career ladder. If you, as a person with important credentials already, have a CPE requirement, you can, at the same time as adding to your credentials and knowledge, meet your CPE requirement. CPAs, for example, can, by taking our CMA program, earn 72 hours of CPE.
