Yes, since 1957 we have been helping thousands of Washington, DC area students pass the CPA Exam and we'd like to help you too.

The exam is "on demand" meaning that after you apply to your state to take the exam and are accepted, you call up the Prometric center nearest you and schedule a time to take the exam on their computers.  Any parts of the Exam can be taken in various two-month "Windows" such as January & February, April & May, July & August, and October & November.   (The Windows are the first two months of each calendar quarter.)  Between each Window there is a month (March, June, September, December) used for grading the exams and various other administrative tasks.  We recommend that serious students take at least one part and preferably two parts of the exam in each window until they are CPAs.

SIMULATION NEWS
Starting July 1, 2008 there will be a slight change to the simulation questions.
For the "Research/Authoritative Literature" task you will be given a tab through which you can search the appropriate "Authoritative Literature"  which might be FASB pronouncements, IRC, Statements on Auditing Standards, etc. depending on which exam you are taking.
When you select this tab, your screen is divided into three regions:
The first region states the research question.
The second region interfaces to Authoritative Literature pertaining to the research question.  If, for example, you are on the Financial Accounting part of the exam, this Literature might be Statements of the FASB.
The third region is where you record your answer.  You select an appropriate document from which various sections then appear in your answer region.  You narrow down your selection to the paragraph or code section that you believe responds to the research task.
It is essential that you go to the CPA Exam Website - www.cpa-exam.org - and take the tutorial.  It is particularly important that you read the material there about "Simulations" and about "Authoritative Literature."  It is also essential that you work through the simulation at this site that deals with the part of the exam you are preparing to take (FAR, Reg or Auditing).  Purchasing simulation software or subscribing to online simulations is not recommended but working one or more of the simulations at the Exam Website is very desirable.

The four parts of the exam are:

  • Financial Accounting & Reporting.  This is GAAP for business enterprises and also for governmental and not-for-profit entities.
  • Regulation.  Coverage includes ethics, professional and legal responsibilities, business law and taxation.
  • Auditing & Attestation.  Expressing opinions on financial statements, attestation and other services involving a thorough knowledge of GAAS, QC, and related subjects.
  • Business Environment & Concepts.  Included in this new module are business structure, economic concepts, financial management, information technology and planning and measurement.

These classes will be offered at the Tysons Westpark Hotel, 8401 Westpark Drive, McLean, VA 22102.  From I-495 (Capital Beltway) take Exit 47 (one of the Tysons Corner Exits).  You will be travelling West on Leesburg Pike (Rte 7 West).  At the sixth traffic light turn right onto Westpark Drive and into the Tysons Westpark Hotel.

DO YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS TO TAKE THE CPA EXAM?
Each state sets its own requirements to take the exam.  With rare exceptions, there is no requirement that you be a citizen of the United States or a resident of the state in which you want to take the exam.
Most states require a degree and most (soon all) require that you have 150 semester hours of college (equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one year of graduate study).   The 150 hour requirement will not go into effect in a few states for another year or two.
In addition to the semester hour requirement, most states require that you have a major in accounting or equivalent. Most states interpret a major in accounting to include at least 24 or more semester hours of accounting courses. Most states also expect that these accounting courses include certain subjects such as auditing, managerial, etc. If you would like to look at more detailed requirements for the various jurisidictions just click this link.  To get back to the present page, just close the new page that opens.
