Tere's Turntable

Twenty years after the introduction of the compact disk, many audiophiles still find vinyl attractive. I am one of those audiophiles.  The pride of my audio system is my Teres Turntable Begun as a web-based DIY project by a group of vinyl loonies, it has matured into a viable commercial project that challenges the performance of commercial units costing much more

Currently, I'm using an Expressimo-modified Rega RB-250 tonearm with a Dynavector 10X4 cartridge.

Tehcnics SL-1200 MK2 A classic turntable that has been in prodction almost as long as the venerable Linn LP-12. It's built like a tank and is all the rage with DJ's who find its bullet-proof construction an advantage.

My signifcant other is not an audiophile, but she like to collect and listen to LP's. When her Music Hall MMF2 developed a bad bearing, I got her an SL-1200 to replace it. I fitted a Grado Black cartride to it and I am pleasntly surprised at the performance of this TT. It produces a soundstage that has width and depth and it tracks most records flawlessly. The tonearm is very nicely constructed and its only weakness is that it has a relatively high mass so one must be careful matching a cartride to it. The Technics should not be overlooked as an entry-level TT. While it does not offer any significant upgrade path, one could use it for a couple of years and then sell it used for the same price and move up to a better TT.
