After I lost Bruiser I felt extremely depressed. It was the saturday of Memorial Day weekend. My insurance company took
the car to inspect it, and try to find out the cause. It was the following tuesday that Chyrsler reported the problem to DOT
and was posted on it's website. I found out about it a couple days later on friday, because my cousin called me and told he
he had heard it ine the news. Nine other PT's had burned in the same fashion before mine did. I contacted DC, and they quickly
made a file on my car and sent an independant inspector to my insurance's lot to see Bruiser. Of course, Bruiser was considered
a total loss. I became enraged at DC, which offered me nothing for my loss, considering it was their defective power steering
hoses that was determined to be at fault. Even the fire report pointed towards the fact that it was something defective with
the power steering system. I had to let my insurance company pay off Bruiser and charge DC for the amount they paid. I was
the only sucker who really lost. I was outraged by DC's "didn't care" attitude. If it wasn't that I loved my PT so much,
I would have never brought another Chrysler ever again. Out of my beloved PT, and the money I put in it, I was determined
not to except my loss. As soon as the insurance company said they sent out the check to Chrysler Financial, I went to
the dealership and demanded they help me out since their dumb mechanic wasn't smart enough to change the hoses and charge
the extended warranty for it. I told them I wanted a GT, and it had to be black, just like Bruiser was. They found a black
GT with the chrome accent package thirty miles away. In a few days I had him. I was going to name him Bruiser II, but my daughter
said "No. He's Bruiser's son; Bruiser Junior." So the name was final. We call him Junior for short. He's a 2004 black PT Cruiser
GT with chrome accent package, chrome door spears, autostick, and GPS navigation. The dealership gave me a good deal, free
tires for life, and every other oil change free for life. I actually got some money back after my insurance paid off Bruiser,
and I put that money in the vinyl dragons and the chrome beltline.
Update!
On July 18th while on a highway interchange after a light rain, Junior hydroplaned on the incredibly aweful OEM Goodyear
RSA tires doing only 20-25mph. I tried to regain control and instead wound up heading straight towards the metal guardrail.
We hit the guardrail, went up onto it and rolled twice. The car was still on and running. My mother and I were cut out of
Junior and rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, Junior was so tough that the accident happened at 8:45 at night and we walked
out of the hospital at 2 am that night with very minor injuries.
Bruiser Junior's dead.
But he saved our lifes. I can testify as to the structural strength of PT's.
