Cantors

The Cantors at Word of God are not soloists who perform for the congregation.  Rather, Cantors fill the role of congregational song leaders whose primary goal is to enable the congregation to fully participate in the musical aspects of the Liturgy.  Actually, the best compliment a Parishioner can give a cantor is to sing during Mass.  The role of the Cantor should be nearly transparent, gently leading the congregation through the hymns, responsorials and the setting of the Mass.  It is our goal to actually diminish the role of the cantor as the level of congregational participation increases.  Our cantors also aid in teaching new music to the congregation (something we do frequently at Word of God.)

Primary to the mission of our Music Ministry is to encourage the children and youth of our parish to express themselves musically.
The Junior Cantor Program
was established to allow teens (beginning at Grade 8) to fill leadership roles in the Parish.

Adult Cantors and Junior Cantors are now required to audition and not all are selected.  Interested candidates should contact
Norm Chapman to schedule an audition with our selection committee.
