23rd annual celebration of black writing festival

Friday & Saturday, May 25-26, 2007

After twenty-two years of snow, blizzards, cold weather, and writers booked elsewhere, the annual Celebration of Black Writing will move into the sun. The new date: Memorial Day Weekend May 25-26, 2007. According to Founder and Executive Director, Lorene Cary, moving the Celebration of Black Writing into spring is important.

“It's up to us, as a black organization, to help spread out the reading, writing--and celebration--of black literature throughout the year. Moving the CBW weekend to May is a start.”

The two-day festival will kick off at the Church of the Advocate, Friday, May 25, with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Tribute to Pulitzer prize-winning playwright, the late August Wilson.

Then on Saturday, May 26, all-day activities featuring: an outdoor book fair; lively panel discussions; free writing workshops; and children and youth programs, such as storytelling, spoken word performances and more. The festival will take place on Cecil B. Moore Avenue @ Temple University's Main Campus.
