The following is an outline of Chapter Activities for the first
quarter year for 2009.
1. Fly Tying Course for January and February:
Conducted by our chapter members assisted by
a few members
of the Little Lehigh, Monocacy
and Forks of the Delaware
chapters.
There were 62 student attendees and several took
membership applications for T.U. Students age
range was 7 to
77 years. There
were 6 women and 10 youth in the class. Raffles
profited as a fund raiser. T.U.’s theme of conserving, protecting
and reconnecting and having participants aware
of environmental
issues were stressed along with the fly tying
experience. There
are a good number of youngsters involved and
are getting
outdoors associated with fly fishing.
2. Stream Improvement Projects:
We have projected a planting project for reparian buffer
along the
stretch of Hokendauqua creek where stream
bank restoration
was completed last September.
3. First Cast :
We
have planned to expand the number of days devoted to
this program this year.
4. Casting For Recovery Program (women recovering breast
cancer)
:
Our members are tying and collecting flies to donate
to this program. We donated 300 flies last year and
hope
to do the same this
year.
5. Project Healing Waters:
Our Chapter is
making in-roads with Lehigh Valley Millitary
Affairs Council
and local V.A. Clinic to provide fly tying and
fishing activities
for veterans in recovery from injuries sustained
while in active
military service. We hope to have our first outing
in May
6. Youth Fishing Education Day:
Chapter
members have been active in planning and assisting
in
this annual event to beheld on June 20, at Point Phillips Rod
and Gun
Club.
7. Women in The Outdoors :
Members
have been active in planning for instructing in this
event
which will be held at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club on
June
13th.
8. NWTF Jakes Youth Field Day in concert with Lehigh County
Federation
of Sportsmen’s Clubs:
Our chapter
members have been active in the planning and
conducting
the youth fishing contest for this event to be held
August
8th at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club.
9. Trout in The Classroom:
This
is the third year we have participated in this program and
we have
donated equipment to the Catasauqua High
School
program
under the direction of Janet Reichelderfer, science
teacher
and olso a T.U, member of our chapter. The fish did
well and
are being released in the Hokendauqua Creek.
10. Stream Cleanups:
In
planning for Indian Creek and Hokendauqua Creek.
