Reformation Bible Translations

John Wycliffe's Translation – When Wycliffe completed this work, it was the first European translation of the Bible in about 1000 years.  Rome thanked him by condemning  him as a heretic and exhuming his bones and burning them after he died.  Who's side is the Pope on, anyway?

William Tyndale's Translation –  Tyndale was also accused of heresy by Rome, and ended up being strangled and burned.  It is estimated that about 80% of the King James Version's New Testament follows Tyndale's lead.

The Geneva Bible –  This was the Bible of the Puritans.  See The Geneva Bible:
The Forgotten Translation for more information.  This edition of the Geneva Bible requires the free Adobe Reader.

King James Version (Authorized Version) –  With hyper-links to Strong's Concordance.

Psalms of David in Metre – With notes by John Brown (of Haddington).

Theology/Christianity

Agape Chapel Ministries – Like your theology short and sweet?  These guys give out free booklets written by some pretty hefty theologians.  You used to be able to fill out the form on their website, check off what you want, and they'd mail it to you.  But I guess that got kind of expensive, so now you can print out your own PDF file.

A Puritans Mind – Quickly becoming a favorite site of ours.  Features the writings of William Ames, William Perkins, Christopher Love, and Francis Turretin.

Calvin's Corner – A Yahoo E-mail Group dedicated to the writings of John Calvin.  No arguing, no chit-chat, just Calvin speaking for himself.

Center for Reformed Theology and Apologetics – Some very good resources available here.  Plus the site owner is a good guy.

Covenanted Reformation Club – Come discuss things related to the Covenanted Reformation.

Covenanter.org – A wealth of valuable Covenanter and Reformed literature, though we must discourage you from having any contact with the individual who runs this site.  He has proven himself to be contrary to the cause this website endorses.

Doctrines of Grace Homepage – Join Supraman's fight for Biblical Orthodoxy!

FREE BEER!  – Drinking to the glory of God!  What would Jesus do?

Planet Jerusalem – Brother John's Covenanted Cyberspace.

True Covenanter – Another wealth of valuable Covenanter and Reformed literature, which we can endorse with no such warning as the one required for Covenanter.org.

Songs of the Lord  – Brother John's book on Exclusive Psalmody.

Still Waters Revival Bookstore – A good source of hard-to-find Reformed literature.

Westminster Shorter Catechism Project – The Westminster Shorter Catechism, along with commentaries on each Question and Answer, including commentaries by Thomas Boston, Thomas Watson, Matthew Henry, John Flavel, et al.

Local/Pennsylvania Interests

Indian Echo Caverns – If walking through a wet hole in the ground sounds like a good time, than this is the place for you!

Jigger Shop – Expensive ice cream in a crowded environment, in beautiful Mt. Gretna, PA!

Kclinger's – Good food, blues on Tuesdays, and the "East Coast's Largest Beer Selection."  Yes, I spelled it right.

Lancaster Brewing Company – Two words:  "Milk Stout."

Lake Tobias Wildlife Park – Mr. Tobias dug a big hole, filled it with water, and stuck animals around it.  Pretty cool, especially with the kids.  Warning:  Do not eat the animals on display.  It is apparently frowned upon.

Lebanon Bologna – My hometown's claim to fame!

Pennsylvania Dutch Country Welcome Center – What to do in, and info on, the Central PA area.

Philadelphia Zoo – In 1995, a fire ripped through the primate house at the Philly Zoo, killing 23 endangered animals.  Since this tragedy, the Philly Zoo now has one of the coolest, most modern primate house I've ever seen.

Sturgis Pretzels – America's first pretzel bakery.  If you take the tour, they'll let you twist a pretzel.  And you can order a tin of pretzels from their website.

The Sand Master – Glass etching at it's finest!  Plus it's my step-Dad, so buy something already.

Trφegs Brewing Company – It's spelled with an umlaut, and that's why we love it.

Yuengling – "America's Oldest Brewery," and one of Pennsylvania's six pre-prohibition era Breweries (the most of any State in the Union).

Musical Interests

Dylan Lyrics –  Love him or hate him, the guy is a true poet.

Essential Blues Albums – "You gotta pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues, and you know, it don't come easy."

Gentle Giant – "It is our goal to expand the frontiers of contemporary popular music at the risk of being very unpopular."  My wife hates this band with a perfect hatred.  They don't play normal chords, they don't keep normal time signatures, they don't even sing in the ordinary manner.  These guys were progressive.

"Kansas is a band." – America's greatest Classic Progressive Rock band.  Not so progressive that my wife hates them, mind you.

Time and Strike Music – An independent record label specializing in acoustic blues, gospel blues, and other roots music.  I recommend the "Motherless Children" CD, and anything by Michael Hakanson-Stacy (this guy plays pure unadulterated blues on a National resonator guitar... most guys that play this style this well have been dead for decades).

Self Defense

Difference Between Fighting and Self-Defense – An accurate, though sometimes salty, description of the difference between defending yourself, and squaring off with someone and fighting.  The former is your God-given right, the latter is you being an idiot and risking legal problems.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership – Obviously I have some religious and political differences with this group, but there is some good info at this site.

Mossberg Shotguns – Ya gotta love the cha-chunk…BOOM of a good shotgun.

Smith and Wesson – Their 686+ model .357 Magnum is a nice, powerful piece.

Team Ramos Jiu-Jitsu Techniques – Most people have not come to grips with the fact that you eventually may have to subdue or kill someone with your bare hands (if you drop your gun, for example).  Having previously trained for a number of years, and once again training, in Isshinryu (a more strike/kick/punch oriented martial art) under John Devine, I find the grappling, throwing, and choking of Jiu-Jitsu to be fascinating.  I'm not convinced that ground-fighting/grappling is the end-all-be-all of the martial arts, but it's important.

Some Other Sites We’ve Found to Be of Use or Interest

Crab Rangoon – Now you don't have to have Chinese guys help you get fat.  You can do it yourself at home!  Mmm.... crab and cream cheese (drool and slobber).

Download.com – Free software downloads of all sorts.  Some more helpful than others.

DrudgeReport – Get your news while it’s still news.

FamTeam – A website by a large family (the Arndt's).  Always something interesting going on in the message boards.  These folks have appeared on national TV being criticized for having a large family, and we find it interesting to see how they handle it.

How to Smoke a Pipe – There are other articles out there about how to smoke a pipe, but I find this one to be the most helpful I've seen.  See also this article on why you might want to smoke a pipe.

Ratebeer – Rate your favorite beers, or read opinions on beers you’re thinking of trying.  Some of the reviews are more than a little funny.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs – Actually, there is no sour to them at all.  But they're really good!
