FEBRUARY IS ADOPT A RESCUED RABBIT MONTH

Pet Finder’s Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month is a fine opportunity to promote rabbits. The general public is not aware of what great companions rabbits can be when invited into our homes, not slaughtered for their fur or flesh, or otherwise exploited. It’s up to us rabbit lovers to promote rabbits so that they can become as protected as dogs and cats. Here are some ideas about what you can do to help. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper:

Points that you may wish to include in your letter:

-Adopt don’t shop. Rabbits are the third most commonly euthanized animals after cats and dogs.

-Adopting a rabbit saves a life.

-Rabbits adopted from rescue organizations and many shelters are already litter box trained, socialized to humans, and spayed or neutered.

-Rabbit rescue organizations are available post adoption to help with questions about rabbit care and behavior that might arise.

Volunteer at your local animal shelter or rabbit rescue organization:

-Help shelter staff understand the special needs of rabbits;

-Bring toys for the rabbits waiting for a new home;

-Offer to take creative digital pictures of the rabbits so that they can put their best paw forward to find a home;

-Transport rabbits to and from adoption day events;

-Offer any special skill that you may have such as web design, writing skills, etc.;

-Donate money; make sure that the shelter will designate it for rabbits;

-Anything else that the organization needs that you can provide;
