Other animals also suffer terribly. PETA recently
released shocking footage from a recent investigation into the Chinese dog and cat fur industry, in which millions of dogs
and cats are bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and strangled with wire nooses so that their fur can be turned into trim and
trinkets. Their fur is often mislabeled as that of other animals, often rabbits, and exported into the United States,
the European Union, and other countries, where it may be sold to unsuspecting customers. Retailers and designers
purchase fur from China, supporting the hideously cruel fur trade. In 2005, PETA campaigned against J. Crew's selling
of Chinese fur. PETA won and J. Crew WENT FUR FREE! See:
The
fur animals in China suffer one of the most cruel and savage practices directed against defenseless beings. The murderous practices
are hidden from unsuspecting consumers who may not know that each fur article comes with an unimaginable amount of agony, all
in the name of fashion. This cruelty must not be tolerated. You can protest directly to the Chinese
Embassies worldwide at:
Fur is entirely unnecessary. Synthetics look great, feel great, and are cheaper to produce. Fur is currently
being heavily marketed, which drives up demand. The solution is to reduce demand. One of the most effective ways to
do that is to let people know about the suffering that goes into every fur garment and to remind them that faux fur is a widely
available attractive substitute.

Here's what
you can do:
**Always check the label when buying anything that resembles fur, including
cat toys, gloves, handbags, and figurines. If the label does not specifically indicate that the item is made from synthetic
materials, don't buy it. It might be made from rabbit fur.
**Let retailers know that their fur items offend you. Ask to be removed from mailing lists. Cut up and return your store credit card. Politely complain to salespeople.
Some may feel the same as you. Write or e-mail the management of the offending
stores to complain. Keep in mind that personal letters are usually more effective
than e-mails.
**Educate
yourself about the horrors of fur, and enlighten skeptical
friends and family members. Find out who the fashion designers are that still use fur.
Find out what celebrities still wear fur.
**Send a RabbitWise postcard "My
fur does not lie in storage" card, registering your concerns to anyone selling rabbit fur. You can buy these cards at
http://www.cafepress.com/NoRabbitFur. You can also get some RabbitWise "postage pals" there
as well. You place these stickers where you would place your stamp on the envelope. On the right is the square for your stamp;
on the left is a photo of a mama rabbit and her children, with the words "Are You Wearing My Children?" Post cards
are also available with this design as well.
My furs are not in storage, nor lying on the bed, They're dancing 'round my feet, waiting to be fed.

NEVER
TAKEN PART IN AN ACTION ALERT BEFORE?
What do I say when I call the store?
"Hi,
I'm calling because you are selling fur in your store and I find it totally barbaric. Rabbits are factory farmed in battery
cages and killed by electrocution and often skinned alive. I am asking you to remove these items because they are cruel.-
I am going to tell everyone about this and ask them to boycott your shop."
What should I write?
Store Name [insert address]
Dear Store Manager:
I
am writing to you because it has come to my attention that you are selling garments made of real fur.
It is totally
barbaric and cruel that rabbits are factory farmed and skinned alive for fashion and profit. There is absolutely no need and
many shops have adopted ethical policies not to stock fur and I am asking you to do the same. I will be boycotting your stores
and asking others to do so until you adopt a fur free policy.
Have a conscience! STOP SELLING FUR!
[insert your
name here]
Here is a sample letter to deter the reply that excuses fur because fashion demands it:
SAMPLE LETTER:
To Customer Service Department:
I was appalled to discover that you are currently selling
fur in your stores.
Apparently, you haven't seen the videos of the
Chinese fur "farmers" standing on animals' throats to suffocate them and--not even having the "decency" to carry out that
atrocity to its grisly end--then allowing them to regain full consciousness to be skinned alive.
Afterward, the animals stagger around for ten
minutes--their eyelashes the only hair left on their bodies--struggling to breathe through smashed windpipes until death
brings release.
Is that what you stand for?
Cruelty is not a "fashion forward" inventory item--and
selling it is tarnishing your image and reputation.
Please remove fur from your product line immediately.
Sincerely,
