ARMANI DECIDES TO CONTINUE TO KILL RABBITS
FOR FUR
Designer Giorgio Armani recently announced
that he is not using fur in his collections, with one big exception: RABBIT
FUR. This means MILLIONS of rabbits
will suffer and die every year so that they can be made into jackets, hats, glove linings, etc. Using the rationale that because some eat rabbit meat, using their fur is therefore
ecological. See news article at http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21261040-2703,00.html
Please tell Armani to stop killing the rabbits.
Rabbits in factory farms spend their entire lives
confined to cramped, filthy wire cages, where they are exposed to all weather conditions. They often go without adequate shelter,
clean water, and veterinary care, and they are denied the opportunity to engage in even the most basic, natural behaviors,
such as stretching their legs and burrowing.
Fur farmers use the cheapest methods available to
kill rabbits, including hitting them on their heads with heavy objects and breaking their necks. These crude killing
methods aren’t always effective, and sometimes animals “wake up” while they are being skinned. In
the US, rabbits are not even offered the meager protections of the Humane Slaughter Act.
Rabbits are intelligent, clean animals
with unique personalities. They are individuals with feelings, families, and friendships. They are more than just scraps of
skin to be sewn onto collars and cuffs.
You all know this about rabbits. Now it's
time to educate Armani. Besides pointing out the needless suffering of rabbits raised and slaughtered
for fur, you may also wish to tell him that according to the American Pet Products Manufacturer's
Association, rabbits are the third most popular companion animal in the US. They are also third in Great Britain and
are very popular in Japan. You also may mention how many rabbit organizations there are in your locale. In the
metro Washington, DC area alone, there are 17 rabbit rescues and shelters that are involved with rescuing and rehoming
rabbits. To a business minded person this equals SALES LOST and the point should not be lost on Armani.
Armani is aware of the conditions in rabbit mills
and farms, yet he continues to use rabbit fur. What he is probably not aware of is how great rabbits are. Please write
to Armani and politely urge him to stop using all fur in his designs:

PATENT GIVEN FOR EXPERIEMNTAL RABBIT
Did you know that you can you patent an animal to be used for testing/vivisection? Recently
an article in the American Anti-Vivisection Society's (AAVS) magazine, revealed that the US Patent
and Trademark Office has granted Patent No. 6,924,413 for an experimental rabbit whose corneas have been deliberately damaged
so s/he can be used for certain types of experiments. This is sickening. Who knew you could patent an
animal, let alone an animal who has been purposely injured for use in experimentation!!!
AAVS is trying to fight this patent and needs everyone's support. Write a letter to the USPTO urging
them to rescind this horrific patent. Please help the rabbits and future animals that might be patented by
supporting this important AAVS initiative Write to:
