WELCOME TO PET BEHAVIOR COUNSELING! (PBC)
Need
help selecting the right species of pet and the right breed for your family? Need to learn how to handle
behavior problems in the companion animal who lives with you now?
We
make house calls in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. Outside of our area, we can consult with you by phone,
e-mail, review of your video, and will help you find needed additional resources in your location.
We
work with birds, cats, dogs, fish, horses, iguanas, turtles, rabbits, and small mammals (mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters,
guinea pigs). WE DO NOT WORK WITH ANY SNAKES, FARM, WILD, EXOTIC ANIMALS, or ANYTHING THAT EATS LIVE PREY.

Including
a being from another species as a member of your family can be one of the most profoundly enlightening experiences in a lifetime. Animals are wonderful companions, great teachers, and amazing healers. We at PBC want you and your animal companions to live a long and fulfilling life together in a forever
home.
To that
end, we will help you make an informed choice about what species of animal companion is best for your family to invite into
your life. Consult with one of our Companion Animal Behavior
Specialists to learn basic characteristics, care, and communication styles of the species in whom you are interested. We’ll make a lifestyle assessment of you and your family members to help determine
the type of animal most compatible with your style.
Once we
determine the species of your new family member, we’ll discuss breed, gender, and age.
Then we will help you find the animals that are available locally. After your new companion comes home, we’ll
help you socialize your companion to your family and assist with training your new friend how to live with humans.
Already have a companion animal that that needs some
help fitting into the family ? Let us send one of our counselors to your home (available in the metro Washington, DC
area only) to evaluate the difficulties and/or the behavioral problems. After
the evaluation, we will give you a written assessment, diagnosis, and a treatment plan.
We’ll also assign the appropriate staff to resolve your animal’s problems.
Typical behavior problems for each species are
listed on their page.
If you live outside the DC area, we'll consult with
you via the telephone and/or e-mail. See the FEES & SERVICES page for details.
