The Organizer's Prayer Grant me, O Lord, the genius to explain to members of our organization and to the media and to the world the greatness of our organization, even though is still being be proved.Give me the understanding that I may forgive the members with great ideas they want me to carry out, the members who think they are too important to do the hum-drum jobs, and the members who would prefer a machine to do the work of a live organizer. Help me to forgive the member who does nothing until I have done something, and then tells me how I should have done it, and what I should have done, and who I should have done it with, and what else I should do from now on and forever.
O Lord, make me knowing of everything every other organizer is organizing. Make me know the ins-and-outs of every organization, every feud, every difference in ideology, every conflict in the world, every leader, every issue. Teach me to be interested in all issues, at all levels, and all people and all their interests and concerns. But don't forget to also teach me all the innuendoes, subtleties, and personalities as well.
Lord, make me a leader, a responder, a reader of minds, a planner, a writer, a picker-upper (wherever others leave off), but mostly a selfless slave to the cause: pleasing, disciplined, understanding, caring, tough, and eternally efficient, so that I make the best of a cause which is sometimes no cause at all.
Teach me, O Lord, to always be cool and articulate and to manipulate every opportunity and situation for the best interest of the cause. And, as a human, please teach me to be unemotional and self-controlled.
Teach me to remember what I often forget -- that my job is never done and I don't mind that it's never done.
Lord, I am an organizer in the cause of equality, humanity, and peace. In your infinite wisdom see my need for all these things, and in your great mercy, grant them to me. And, when I have them, Lord, move over!
P.S. And, Lord, please don't make plagiarism a mortal sin or I'll never get to heaven!
Praise to the Lord and AMEN!
