Give me a dark tavern

A place where people pour drinks down their throats

A place where people rot their guts

A place where the restless people come to annihilate their minds.

Give me a place where the people never have enough

Where people smoke because there may not be nothing left in the morning

A place where people know they are alone

They’ll never be satisfied.

A place to lose your self in the blue glow of the cigarette smoke in front of the TV screen.

A place where it all means nothing

A place where there’s only the next laugh

The next drink

The next clever point

A place where we’re only hanging on for the next moment

A place where it all means something

and it all means nothing

A place where we can all be alone, together.

The gay guy at the end of the bar is intensely into his dinner party.

He’s talking about costume changes.

I’m neurotically checking my watch, worrying about the alcohol on my breath.

The guy in the suit is showing his girlfriend to the ladies’ room.

The music plays, the smoke drifts and I don’t know where I am.

I’d like to write a song about this

But it’ll probably never come.

These guys are blowing kisses to one another

And Eminem is rapping about something intense

And I’m thinking about why I’m here and thinking these thoughts:

When you’re in a suit you act like a suit

Please don’t put me in that trap

Wait, I already chose my role, my prison

Joe Suit ain’t no worse off than me

Who the fuck am I to judge anyone.

And he’s rappin’ about the rigors of corporate life

And I’m lamenting my own pathetic confusion

While I’m eyeing the brunette in the purple sweater -- She’s got a big ass

And I’m marveling at how much I love this shit

I’d better buy some gum

11/30

Listening to rymes

delved into the world of corporate grinding wheel

sucked the spirit right out my wrinkled eyes

hell, even Jesus went down into the valley of death

beginning to understand why the world is so pathetic

why we live for a bargain or piece of fine jewelry

am i better because i know i'm wrong?

running the hamster wheel to bring in a buck

to do my duty to provide

sucked in the insecticide

coughed, smiled, and said gotta do what i gotta do

we all do it

mothers, fathers, sisters riding the slide

dying's natural

whether you burst or sizzle

no..

no...

don't give it up

don't accept

living for the next ejaculation

the next card or invitation

pretty girls wrinkling

and then getting the incision

or injection

men fattening

and drinking, watching the television

no vision

dreams fading

wading through scum and

saying its what we all do

adolescent skyrockets

burst in the sky long ago

rites of passage into dead space

eat me fuck you if you let it go it's only you

raise a child its not all about you

but it is

you've only got only you

and so does he

so be fair

be real

nobody needs to get short changed

the CEO never does

he rides your back

vacations bonuses

tracks in the corners of your eyes

slips in the discs of YOUR back

and you're told to care

about the quality and quantity

the seeds we sow

the breadth of the bounty

that you'll never see

fuck that

drink from the fountain

climb the mountain

drop the pack

and let the fat cat

drop back

see the peak on your own two feet

don't support Yertl

let him fall into the creek
