NEW PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP RESCUE SQUAD ORGANIZED
On the day a group of citizens got together to start an abulance corps to service our town
January 11, 1943
SQUAD ANSWERS FIRST CALL
At 7:15pm the newly formed rescue squad answered their first call
April 26, 1943
SQUAD GOES CO-ED
Caroline May was accepted as the first female member of the squad. Today more than half the members are women.
January 21, 1944
SQUAD JOINS STATE ORGANIZATION
On this date the squad voted to join the New Jersey State First Aid Council, and organization of the volunteer ambulance corps in the state.

NAME CHANGES
When the township changed its name from New Providence to Berkeley Heights, the squad followed suit.
March 1, 1954
BUILDING FUND SET
Motion made and seconded that all memorial donation be set aside to buy property for a squad building.
May 6, 1957
SERVICE IMPROVED
A two way radio was install in the rig which was connected with police headquarters. This enabled the squad to be in constant contact with police headquarters and squad cars.
July 7, 1958
AUXILARY FORMED
A women's auxilary had been organized to help the squad with many non-first aid projects, it's main purpose was to raise funds.
April 1959
GROUND BREAKING FOR NEW HOME
Ground breaking ceremonies for the new Berkeley Heights Rescue Squad building took place on a cold, rainy Sunday after noon this month.
June 25, 1960
DEDICATION HELD
Xavier Masterson, Sr., Mayor Arthur Manner and Mildred Shaffer helped President Michael Nigro cut the ribbon for the dedication ceremonies of the squads new home.
January 5, 1961
AMBULANCE IS ON THE WAY
A new M&M ambulance was slated for delivery
October 1, 1962
RADIO RECIEVERS PURCHASED FOR ALL MEMBERS
A Plectron radio reciever was purchased for each member so that all members may be alerted instantly of all emergency calls. Today, each member is issued a pager worn on the hip.
December 1965
CARDIO-PULMONARY RESUCITATION COURSE
Members of the Berkeley Heights Squad wer the first in the state to pass the Cardio-Pulmonary Resucitation course given by the American College of Physicians and Surgeons. Today, each member must be CPR certified and re-certify every year as guidelines change.
