My Grandpa Poorman, hiding something

Wonder where & when this photo of JS was taken? JS built the house @ 15 East Brown St. in Castanea PA, next door to the UM church.  He worked at the paper mill, i.e. the New York & Pennsylvania Company.  His father was Robert Curtin Poorman.

Boy, does Dad look like his Father, or what?  Too bad JS couldn't be here for this, Mom & Dad's wedding day. Dad worked at the paper mill too, i.e. NY&PC, which later was acquired by Hammermill/ International Paper.  Check out Dad's Aunts & Uncles on Rootsweb.

Some landmarks in my first neighborhood @ Castanea PA

  • Community United Methodist Church
  • Castanea Elementery School
  • Castanea Fire Company
  • Castanea Township

Sorry I can't link you to any websites in Castanea, can't find any, maybe no one there has a PC yet; they don't even have a traffic light, never did, and don't want one.  The biggest thing that happened since I left in 1960 was the Fire Company picnic grounds got toilets.  I think they once had a library, but someone lost the book.  They used to have a gas pump, but you had to crank it.  Now they don't even have one.  Oops, sorry, the Piper Memorial Airport has a website, and they are in Castanea township (I think?), but the City of Lock Haven owns it.  Well, Clinton County is not exactly a metropolis.

Me @ 1 year 8 months

My dad was a member of the Citizen's Hose Company in Lock Haven for many years.  He used to take me along to set up (and tear down) for the annual festival when I was a kid.

Lock Haven Armory, Co. H, 12th Infantry

The above photo of Capt. A. R. Poorman was taken approximately May 31, 1914 at the Lock Haven Armory in Lockport, PA.  Capt. Poorman was in Company H, 12th Infantry.  In trying to determine how Capt. A. R. Poorman fits into our family tree, here's what I think we know now:

     Peter Poorman c1717 - 8/23/1792
          John Jacob Poorman 1/8/1742 -  1/11/1785
               Peter Aquila Poorman 12/10/1776 - 9/10/1865
                    Washington Poorman 12/28/1822 - 1/1/1875
                         Thomas Mackey Poorman
                              Capt. Albert R. Poorman d. 6/21/1918

NOTE: Capt. Poorman died June 21, 1918 in the Lock Haven Hospital.  He had a brother and three sisters.

Capt. A. R. Poorman (above) married (name unknown) and had 4 children:

1. Albert R. Poorman, born 6/29/1910, died 7/25/1989

M1: Albert married Violet Stout* in Lock Haven on 3/29/1935.  Violet was born 7/1/15 and died 11/22/1999; they had one (1) child:

a. Gary T. Poorman, b. 1936

M2: Albert married Myrtle (surname unknown) from Stroudsburg PA and had two boys:

a. Donald Poorman
b. Robin Poorman

2. Harry Poorman, married (?) and had one child:

a. Jack Poorman

3. Katy Poorman

4. Dorothy Poorman

NOTE: Mrs. Poorman divorced Capt. Poorman and took Katy and Dorothy and raised them - and Albert and Harry were raised in a Moose Orphanage in Scotland PA.  They returned to Lock Haven when they got out.

* Violet Stout was the sister of Leroy Stout and Jimmy Stout.
