Theodorus Hall
Theodore married Gertrude Gordon (confusion
about her name) in 1729 at Christ Church in Philadelphia, and they had 8 or 9 children, i.e. Jesse, Jacob, Isaac, Rebecca, Mary, Gertrude, Joseph, Samuel, and possibly another Jesse(?).
Gertrude was born c1710 in Middlesex County, New Jersey, near the Raritan River. They moved to Kingwood, New Jersey, in 1757, engaged in the milling business. He drowned (age 69) in an upset canoe incident in
the Delaware River, in which his son Samuel (age 17) survived. Gertrude died in 1805 at age 95.

[NOTE: There is confusion about Gertrude
Gordon's name, which is also listed as both Gartrey Goodwin and Gartrey Goodling in the Christ Church records. Doug
Humes, Esq., our Hall family historian, is working on clarification.]
Two of Theodore and Gartrey's children
settled in Virginia. Samuel (REV) went on to marry Ruhama Everett, and they had 13 children, including Jesse Hall, Sr., who later
moved to Renovo, Clinton County, Pennsylvania.
JESSE HALL SR. was born in 6/1/1779 in Bucks County PA, and died on 10/14/1877 in Illinois.
He is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery, Bristol,
Illinois. He married Elizabeth Johnson.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson was born in 10/21/1780 in Kingwood Township, Hunterdon
County NJ, and died on 8/2/1854 and was buried in the Old Hays Cemetery at Beech Creek Township PA, a/k/a Hays/Fearon Cemetery.
Betsy's Father was Bethuel JOHNSTON (REV WAR) of
Gibson Township PA, and her Mother was Ann SIMPSON Johnson.
[NOTE by Doug Humes: Theodorus’ sister, Susannah Hall, was first married in Christ Church on May 2, 1733 to Joseph Harvey. After he
died, she remarried to John Rush – apparently not at this Church. They had several children including Dr.
Benjamin Rush, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He was also the founder of Dickinson
College in Carlisle, PA, where my grandfather Ralph Owens Hall attended, and where
my daughter Elizabeth currently attends. Ralph played on the 1905 Dickinson baseball team, and family lore has it that Ralph played against
Jim Thorpe, who played for the Carlisle Indian School.]

My grandfather Clarence Richard Hall helped wire the Renovo High School for electricity when it was built.
My great great grandfather, JESSE ROYAL HALL (aka Jesse Jr), Everett
& Phobe's dad, was born on 5/16/1815 in Benezette PA, and died on 4/21/1865 in Renovo PA. He was buried at the North Bend Cemetery.
Jesse Jr. married my gg grandmother, Mary Ann Shaffer in 1838-40?
She was from Grove Township near the Village of Sinnemahoning, PA, in the Cameron County boon docks. Mary Ann died at Bennetts Branch near Benezette in 1869, and was buried with Jesse at the North Bend Cemetery.
Mary Ann's father was James Shaffer, Sr. (12/22//1787 - 8/25/1872), who
died at Grove Twp., near SInnemahoning, and is buried in the Pine Street Cemetery at Sterling Run PA. In 1809 he married Mary Ann's mother,
Margaret Brooks Shaffer (1/28/1791 to 2/26/1876), who is also buried in the Pine Street Cemetery.
Margaret Brooks' father, Benjamin Brooks, Sr. (4/10/1753
- 12/24/1838) was from Gibson Township, but was born in Bucks County PA, and was a Sergeant who fought at the battles of Germantown
and Brandywine during the Revolutionery War. He was of English and Irish descent. He is also buried in the Pine Street Cemetery at Sterling Run PA (85y 8m 13d).
Note: If your ancestors lived in Gibson Township, they could be difficult to track down. The land called Gibson Township resided in more counties than any
of Cameron County's townships. The original township was much larger, and included not only the present township of Gibson,
but also Benezette Township and part of Jay Township (both part of Elk Co today). To find early records, search these counties
(earliest to present): Northumberland, Lycoming, Clearfield, Elk, then Cameron. You might also look in Centre Co., because
some Clearfield County's records are stored there.
Benjamin's 1st wife (Margaret's mother) was Elizabeth
Harkins, who died c1810. Benjamin and Elizabeth had 9 children, James, Joseph, William, Benjamin,
David, Rebecca, MARGARET, Jane and Mary.
Benjamin's 2nd wife was Mary Wood, b. 2/4/1777, a native of Monmouth
County, New Jersey. She was of English and Welsh descent. She died 1/24/1857, and is buried in
the Pine Street Cemetery at Sterling Run PA (79y 11m 20d). She
and Benjamin had two children, John and Washington. John Brooks was born in Lock Haven, my home town.

Alice Thea and Clarence "Richard" Hall lived in Philadelphia, up on the farm at Barney Run,
and at Point Breeze in South Renovo, in Clinton County, Pennsylvania. I do not have dates on when they lived at these locations. My mother's (Pearl) notes indicate that her
mother (Alice) was a piano teacher, and that her father, Clarence, operated a dairy farm, and she remembered the
names of his horses. Mother also told me that he helped do the electrical wiring of the Renovo High School building.
The old Hall residence at Point Breeze is still partially standing.
The guest house, servant quarters, barn, ice house and out houses have been torn down. I remember when Mom, Aunt
Belle and Aunt Emma sold the house to Frank and Helen Stagoff. We used to visit them occasionally. The spring
by the bridge over Pete's Run is still running, and people still go there to get water. I remember the old planks
on the bridge floor, and how scary it was for me to drive over them when I was little, HA! I think the porches have been
removed from the house too. I think it's quite a mess now.

This is the State sign on the Hall Picnic Area up Halls Run on Route 144, on the left just past
Barney Run Road and Mickey Fisher's house. Mom & Dad used to take me to the Hall-Wertz Reunion every year when I was young. Dave & Taylor Doebler used to bring a pickup truck full of sweet corn and cook it
all day so everyone could have yummy "corn-on-the-cob." They used to play softball on the little field across the road.
I remember Carol Clarey playing softball (as good as the boys too!), but I was not a jock, so I played the piano instead.
Boo. Somewhere I have a picture of me playing the piano on the back of a pickup truck at the reunion.

Theodore Hall (1690-1759) came to USA with his brother Jacob from Macclesfield, Cheshire County, England; and settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, north of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He later moved Accross the Delaware River to Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Please don't ask me why anyone would leave Macclesfield to go to New Jersey! He married Gertrude Gordon
