I was in the YMCA choir for a few years in the early 1950's, including a year or so as a substitute piano
accompanist. Jimmy Stout was the Choir Manager, Pamela Blesh was the accompanist, and there were a few choir directors,
including James "Jim" Spotts of WBPZ, Bob Schadt and Barry Vanocker. I'm not sure of the tenure dates
for each of the choir directors. Pop Ford was Manager of the Y at that time as I recall.
When I was in the choir, we practiced in the little gray house that the Y owned on the corner of Grove
and Water Streets, in front of the Y building. My most memorable performances were a television concert at
Channel TV-10 in Altoona, and one at the Hershey Park Bandshell, for which I got to play for a couple
selections. I remember a big 4x6' poster that had my name on it as accompanist, which Mom & Dad kept in the attic
for years, and I lost in the 1972 flood in Lock Haven. We also performed at Hecla Park occasionally, and at
Price Auditorium once, I think. We also performed a churches in the region. The organization used to sponsor
a summer camp for us at Camp Rocky Point, between Lockport and Farrandsville PA. Aside from the many practices
in that little house, that's about all I can remember about the choir.
