Dr. Lorraine Chrisomalis-Valasiadis is an
OB/GYN who is currently in private practice on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where she provides comprehensive
women's health care with an emphasis on overall wellness.
Dr. Chrisomalis-Valasiadis
graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a B.A. in Biology. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies,
she dedicated her time to biochemical research at The New York State Psychiatric Institute which culminated in a publication
on the mechanism of action of lithium in alleviating bipolar illness. Dr Chrisomalis-Valasiadis then went on to receive her
medical degree from New York Medical College in 1990 and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1994.
A former chairman of the Junior Fellows for District II from 1995-1996, Dr Chrisomalis- Valasiadis represented over 800
residents at the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology during her fellowship training, which she completed in Maternal-
Fetal Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital- Columbia University Medical
Center.
Following her formal training and prior to setting
up her own private practice, Dr. Chrisomalis-Valasiadis provided a wide range of obstetrical care for high-risk pregnancy
patients for eleven years as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University
Medical Center in upper Manhattan. She offered her expertise in medical and surgical conditions associated with complicated
pregnancies as well as in the management of multiples.
Dr. Chrisomalis-Valasiadis
is the recipient of many honors and awards including the ACOG-Burroughs Wellcome Junior Fellow Section Chairman Meeting
Award, the Jewish Foundation for the
Education of Women Scholarship, the Ladies Society of Anavryte Award and the Thelma and George Paraskevaides Award.
She is currently a member of The Hellenic Medical
Society where she serves on the executive board.
Among her multiple
publications, Dr Lorraine Chrisomalis- Valasiadis authored an article on the first known case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in
pregnancy. She has submitted abstracts to the Society of Perinatal Medicine on cervical length and induction of labor as well
as perinatal complications in women of advanced maternal age with donor eggs.
Dr. Chrisomalis-Valasiadis
has been seen on ABC Network’s “Good Morning America” show where she discussed weight gain in pregnancy
and has been a guest speaker on AKTINA-FM where she spoke about women's health issues. She has been quoted in various
publications such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Modern Bride, Shape and Parents magazines.
A
native New Yorker, Dr. Chrisomalis-Valasiadis continues to reside in Manhattan with
her husband and their two daughters.
