Subject: Thank You Again!

Mrs. McFarland,

I just wanted to write and to thank you and all of the volunteers once again for the amazing care packages and for brightening up the days of my Marines.  We just got back from a week of training in Djibouti Africa (what an amazing experience and very humbling) and then when we got back on ship your packages were there!  My Marines were so grateful to have snacks and supplies, especially after being in the field and eating MRE’s and working in the heat.
I walked down to their berthing and heard them all talking about what they had gotten from your packages and then on my way out they all made sure to stop me and tell me to relay their thanks to you and everyone else who helped put the packages together!   So thank you for that.  It means a lot to me to see a smile on their faces!  Especially now when we’re 2 months from being home!  Sometimes they say it’s the final months/weeks that go by the slowest and so far, unfortunately, that is true!  All in all it has been a successful deployment and I wanted to simply say THANKS for your time, generosity and support!
Fondly,
Capt Fran Clemens

Jennie,
Thank you so much for the all the care packages!!!  My team and I really
enjoyed the goodies inside.  I loved all the cards from the kids.  I always
get a big smile on my face looking at the pictures the kids draw and what
they write.  I'll tell you what.  I'll take those any day over food or toiletries.  It means so much to us to know that people back home are thinking of us over here.  It really lifts our spirits and keeps us going on.   Please give our gratitude to all those in your community who helped put the packages together.  They were filled with everything we use out here.
I'm not sure if all the kids whose cards we received are from the same area, but please pass our thanks to Sam, Sophia, Julia, Paul (3yrs old and wants to be an office worker), Olivia Molho, Lauren, Sas Gunnar, and Robbie.  Tell them we are doing just fine over here and hope the same for them.
Happy Easter to you too, and I hope you are all doing great.

You have recently sent a package to a soldier here in Afghanistan. Recently that soldier has re deployed back home to his family, and i have received his package. I just wanted you to know that. I would like to say thank you for your kindness and caring. You know that you say thank you to the soldiers here means so much to us, but I would like to say thank you from the soldiers here. You do so much for us by showing that a complete stranger has the kindness and ability to think of us. When allot of people don't.
Some of the soldiers here don't really have any family outside the military and just one package brings back hope and some of thiner spirits, and you have sent 5 care packages. I just wanted you to know that you and your family are in our prayers, and that all of us hope the best for you as well.
thank you
Gary

Good day from Iraq: I have been the reciepiant of multiple packages from
your organizations. Thank you all. I will send letters out to all who have
sent theirs to me in thanks. It is great to see the suport of both families and strangers for the troops deployed overseas, no matter the political climate.  All must always remember that soldiers are instruments of elected officials and policies. We must never go back to the days of denial for the sacrifices of the Viet Nam era troops who for the most part were drafted into that war. We are all voulunteers and exect to be sent on to do the countries' bidding. It is hard to do and harder for those at home to understand what we go thru. For every combat deployment, most have many days/months/years away from home and family and no amount of money makes it that much better. We appreciate your gifts and rememberences, especially the children and thir homemade cards and letters. I have them on my wall in my office. They, the children, are what we are serving for, their future!

Mrs. McFarland:
Greetings from Iraq!  I hope this finds you and your 4th Grade CCD class
well and enjoying another great spring in New York.  I am very familiar
with New York weather, as I was born in Brooklyn, live in Salisbury Mills, and work at West Point.
First, let me say thank you for the great care packages you and your 4th
Grade CCD class sent to me.  I was very surprised when I received them and enjoyed reading every card and letter.  I could not possibly use everything you sent, so I shared many of the items with the soldiers I work with.  Everyone wanted me to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for your support and your good wishes.  Again, thank you very much!
As for me, I am a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army and have been on
active duty for nearly 20 years.  My job as a CID Special Agent is comparable to what the FBI does for the civilian world.  I investigate felony crimes wherein the Army is a party or has an interest.  Here, I not only investigate crimes within the Army, but also among the detainee population.  It is fascinating and rewarding work.
As I mentioned before, I live in Salisbury Mills, NY.  This is a hamlet
bordered by the Towns of Cornwall, New Windsor and Blooming Grove.  I
work at West Point, NY and have been stationed there since June 2004.  I
am married to a wonderful woman (Kate) who I have known since 2nd grade
at Most Precious Blood School in Walden, NY.  Like your students are
doing now, Kate and I went through many years of CCD together, making
the sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation together.  We are
active in our church, which is St. Francis of Assisi, Newburgh.  We do
not have any children (yet), but we do have a wonderful 85 pound
Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Ginger.
This is my second tour in Iraq.  I was first over here in 2003 and 2004.
It seems to be hotter than I remember; already the day time temperature
is over 100 degrees!  In the middle of summer, it will be about 140
degrees.  Luckily, the places where I work and sleep both have air
conditioning.  Unfortunately, to do most everything else, you have to be
outside in the heat.
Well, I supposed I should go back to work.  Thank you again for your
care packages, good wishes and prayers!  God bless you all!
Sincerely,
Bill Lake

Thank you and all the member of your community for your support and
contribution. I am part of an 11 man team that was sent to train Iraqi,
so all US soldiers can come home soon. So far the work has been very
difficult and painful but your care packages do put a smile on the guys
face. I will pass the letters out to the guys so that they can write
back to your class. Once again Thank you.
