With the Tour being there this weekend and my past five years experience of how to set up the car when we are scheduled to be after their show, as the track drastically changes form the compund of their tires, seemed to have paid off as I ended up finishing 3rd. (by the way the secret is to have a spinning wheel with 5 different setups and let'er rip right after the anthem, Pat Sajak aint got nothin on me...).
The best part about last night was that the car was relatively unscathed. I don't think I could do many weeks like last one with all the damage. At least not do it and still stay married anyway....
The race was nonstop from green to checker which was a nice change of pace. And I knew early on I did not tighten up my car enough so was just trying to hang in there on this one. One of the cars starting up front dropped to the back so it moved me up to fourth starting position. The whole race kinda went by in a blur so my recount might not be 100% accurate as my little bro was not there video taping either. But it seemed like I got whacked in my left rear from at least 3 different cars in the first 3 laps. (no ones fault, just very small taps) Which really doesn't help when your sliding already lol. The result is your tires spin even more, heat up more, and then spin more and more each lap. Only took me a few years to figure it out, but it seems to be instead of driving the heck out of the car after you spin your tires, slow down for a lap instead. Which is something that I have known, been told, etc. etc.. But to actually apply it in a race takes some discipline. I mean who wants to slow down in a race, it's counter-intuitive..lol...  Well I dropped back a few positions and watched that 00 sail off into the horizon. And then we started running into lapped cars on lap 10 I think, maybe even earlier. All I know is there were cars passing me in both directions for the last four laps. ;-)  I definitely would have been further back in the finish like 6th or 8th had not some lapped cars taken a couple out and slowed others down. I was able to widdle my way through when it counted I guess. Low and behold the end of the race came and I was 3rd. Which I had no idea since so many cars went by I had honestly lost track. That and the leader was like half a lap ahead. Moved up a lil in points anyway from 11th to 8th.
Happy to get a chuckle out of the tech guys after the race. They checked wheelbase, width, and a couple other things. One of them being engine placement. Apparently stunned that my engine was in 100% stock location. One rule I had not taken advantage of was the ability to move the motor down and back. Quite honestly because then I would have to buy a custom driveshaft, move the xmember, etc, etc. Something I had desired doing for a while, but money, time and resources are always in short supply. I'll be the first to admit, handling and setup wise, my car is pretty much a turd..lol I get it close, but never right. My motor from Donnie is always fast, and I like to think my driving is somewhat decent, but it takes a good handling car to run up front consistently. Me, a computer programmer, being primarily the only only one who works on the car is probably not going to set it up to be all that competively. But ask me if I'd rather sit home and watch TV and you know the answer...

On a side note, there was a car that "got into me" (for those of you that don't know, that means a car behind you smashed you in the rear bumper between mid-point and exiting the corner to get you loose so they can get by you on the inside). To which I was one bad decision away from returning the favor in turn one and thought twice since I was running decent at the time. So after the race they came up and apologized, so I am confident it will not happen in the future.....
