The Residential Program continues the behavioral approaches used by other programs.
It
emphasizes the importance of family living, social interaction, and basic living skills.
Evenings are a quiet time when children can play in small groups, take field
trips, do homework, visit our library, or work on individual projects.
A vital part of each child’s day is fulfilling his responsibility as
a member of the Reed Academy community. All children have chores to perform,
such as making beds and assisting in meal preparation.
The residential staff consists of a
Director and Direct Care Counselors. Our staff/student ratio is based on the needs of
our students and the time of the day.
After School Program
The After-School Program runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
This program continues the therapeutic goals of
the child’s Educational Plan. While
participating in low-key, well structured and supervised activities,
the student learns how to behave appropriately
in various settings.
The major
focus of this program is the growth of social interaction skills.

Summer Program
The theme of our Summer Program is developing
socialization skills, building peer relationships, as well as developing fine and gross
motor skills.
During the six week program, the students can
explore nature, learn outdoor crafts, participate in
swim lessons, enjoy dirt biking, and participate in active sports and games. Summer evening activities may include small group games, field trips, and cookouts.
The six week summer program is included in the student's 766
contract. The six week program is also attended by other special needs children (see Sunshine Programs). This gives our students an opportunity to make new friends and interact with other
children.
