- Mark Twain National Forest -
The trail I did in this forest was part of the McCormack-Greer Trail. The section hiked was
probably around 3.5 miles. You start off from the McCormack Lake Campground or Picnic Area, and the trailhead is located
near the dam on the far side of the lake. The trail was pretty overgrown when I was on it, but it's still navigable.
It slowly ascends to meet the Ozark Trail and the two trails merge and start climbing a hill. At the top is a rock outcrop
with a beautiful overlook complete with a picnic table and no people. The rocks are volcanic in nature, and different
from the sedimentary rock outcrops often found in the east. After taking in the view, just simply follow the same
way back.
