Today was mainly a driving day. We left Pittsburgh early in the morning and headed towards Ohio where we would follow the Ohio River south to US 50. On the way, we briefly passed through “beautiful” Moundville WV where we stopped for breakfast and a quick visit to the Marx Toy Museum (which turned out to be closed on Wednesdays)

As we followed the Ohio south, we were surprised at how many power plants we passed - both coal and nuclear. It was pretty strange to round a bend in the middle of nowhere and suddenly have a nuclear reactor cooling tower looming in front of you.

About lunch time we turned west on US 50 toward Cincinnati. A few hours after Jerry’s first-ever visit to Arby’s, we stopped at the Snake Mound - a huge ceremonial earthwork built about 1000 years ago. It’s been preserved and is now the centerpiece of as small state park. This is the largest of many similar mounds scattered across southern Ohio and Indiana.

We hit Cincinnati in time for dinner and did some quick site seeing. Visited the Roebling bridge (built by Rensselaer grads and the smaller precursor to the Brooklyn Bridge) and swung by the new art museum by Zaha Hadid.

Crossed the river to Covington Kentucky to spend the night.
