Manning Lake was formerly known as Guinea Pond and also as Young's Pond. It is 201
acres and sits 715 feet above sea level. No Volunteer Lake Monitoring is conducted on Manning Lake. Depth goes to 56 feet.
Fish species include; brook trout, small & largemouth bass, pickerel, yellow perch and horned pout.
Crystal Lake dam is located at the south end of the lake in Gilmanton.
The following
parameter is currently being measured at this site:
Crystal Lake Stage (Lake Elevation)
Seasonal Fall Drawdown Stoplogs
holding back water in lake are removed after Columbus day. The lake is normally lowered towards a goal of 3’. During
most years, the 3' drawdown is not reached.
Spring Refill Lake is allowed to return to full pond after ice out,
usually in Mid-April. This is done by replacing stoplogs at the dam.
Summer Operations Lake level is maintained
at full pond. Full pond is equal to top of the spillway at the dam.

| Manning Lake from Hiking Trail - Photo by jg1222 - thanks! |
Manning Lake is a quiet pond in a secluded section of Gilmanton.
Nearly 3/5 of the shoreline is still undeveloped, and at least 1/2 the shoreline is likely to stay that way, as it is part
of a Scout Reservation. There is 1 long-established cabin rental site, and its patrons, a few residents, some fishermen and,
lately, the scouts are about the only regular users. Few boating controversies here - really fast boats would probably find
it much too confining, and even dangerous to travel on (shallow, narrow, and short running distance) - the traditional users
no doubt like it that way. (narrative by dcr)

Rocky Mt is in Alton - Crystal Lake is in Gilmanton. For the few folks
who know of a rather obscure trail that leads to the summit of Rocky Mt, fine views can be enjoyed from the open ledges seen
here on the mountain's SW face.
