"Labor Day started in 1882 as a national day of celebration of the advancement o fthe economic and social status of the American worker. The local organizations were invited to participate. Here the men of Brant Rock Life Saving Station, seen atop their lifeboat near the head of the line, proudly join the procession. Today Labor Day symbolizes the end of summer for beach dwellers".
