SUNCOOK LAKE ASSOCIATION
MINUTES of ANNUAL MEETING
– JUNE 24, 2006
At approximately 8:50am, Al Poulin (Association President) welcomed everyone and mentioned
there were several items on the back table for members;
- Gas reimbursement forms
- SLA membership
forms
- Milfoil Information
- Signature form for proposed boat launch to Lower Suncook Lake
- Membership
form for the NH lakes Association
The meeting was called to order by Al Poulin at 9:00am. There were 72 Suncook
Lake Association members in attendance. Al requested a moment of silence for Ron DiPerry who passed away in June. Ron was
the owner of Mountains General Store.
Mike Askin Selectman was invited to be a guest speaker at today’s
meeting but just called and cancelled.
The treasurer report from Denise Alexander was read by Cathy White, Secretary
as Denise was not able to attend the meeting:
Beginning Balance 6/05 - $XXXX
Revenue - $XXXX
Expenses $XXXX
Ending
Balance 6/25/06 $XXXX
Al gave a detailed explanation of expenditures and asked for discussion;
there was none. The treasurer’s report was accepted unanimously.
The fireworks will be held on 7/1/06
at Camp Fatima beach. Al explained the cost is split three ways from the SLA, Camp Fatima and Camp Bernadette. There are no
dues money used toward the fireworks or the milfoil project.
The SLA also sends the Barnstead
Fire Rescue $XXX each year. The Marine Patrol will be on the lake again this year, unfortunately, last year there were several
DWI’s. It was highly recommended for everyone to check their boats for the required number of life jackets etc and to
drive safely.
There was a brief discussion regarding the dues amount of $10.00 per family and whether or not
to increase them or keep them the same, it was unanimously voted to keep the dues at $10.00 per family. Al also asked everyone
to take SLA membership forms with them to pass out to neighbors.
The tax abatement process was
discussed in detail, Al was surprised that more people had not filed abatement forms. There were a total of 60 requests which
were town-wide. The Town was dictated from the State of NH to increase the assessment to 98/100% of market value for lake
property owners. This is a State-wide issue. If you did file and were denied, you may file an appeal to the State of NH.
Al
asked if anyone could locate a local appraiser to conduct appraisals for SLA members. Barry Mohan said he would report back
with contact information. Al said he would send out a newsletter soon with more information.
Al
is proposing the construction of a new boat ramp for access to Lower Suncook Lake. The boat ramp would be located on the opposite
side from the current one. There is a signature sheet on the table, 100 signatures are needed. It is getting harder each year
for owners on the lower lake to launch their boats because of the water levels and size of boats, The bridge is approximately
18 years old. There was a brief discussion regarding the proposal. Several members were concerned about congestion, parking
and access.
Al reported the milfoil monitoring is continuing. Ed Neister was not at the meeting to give an
update. The SLA lake host grant was approved. The SLA needs to match 40% of the grant, Al is looking for people to work and
volunteer at the bridge. Training is provided.
Bill Johnson reported he will be writing a letter
of nomination for Barnstead Citizen of the Year (name withheld in minutes) everyone in attendance applauded and agreed on
the name for the nomination.
Al requested nominations from the floor for officers, with none; he reported that
the current officers would stay on for another year. He requested a vote from the floor, SLA members voted yes unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 10:10am
Respectfully Submitted,
Cathy White
SLA Secretary
