from the Camp Fatima Beach at Dusk – the SLA is responsible for $XXXXXX from donations – Cathy White
noted that only $XXXXXX was collected as of today. The total cost for fireworks is XXXXXX. Camp Fatima pays $XXXXXX each year.
Al noted that many members on the SLA list do not pay their dues each year or donate to fireworks but
there are 100’s of boats that go and enjoy them – he encouraged donations so that this event can continue to take
place. Cathy noted that there are 200 members currently on the list; she has approximately 73 members on her email list which
is helping with the cost of sending out newsletters. As of the meeting this morning, only 71 members had paid their dues this
year.
Al gave an update on the Lake Host program, this year the SLA is limited to $1,000 of paid lake host
dollars. There are four paid lake hosts and they are paid $10 per hour. All Lake Host paid hours must be matched by volunteer
hours. Al volunteers his time and does not get paid for administrative work he counts that toward the volunteer match. John
Reilly has donated approximately $XXXXXX towards the hours for volunteer already. If anyone is interested in volunteering
their time, please see Al.
One member asked about the reaction from people that launch their boats; Al explained that there have
been no complaints and the reaction is for the most part positive. There are a chosen few people that don’t want to
be bothered as they just want to get their boat in the water, but the lake host can still visually monitor and get the registration
number and record it. It is meant to be a public educational awareness program. Al stated that most of the time is put in
on the weekends when there is the most traffic on the lake – he tries to use the program in the most efficient way as
possible.
The water testing has been conducted – Al will get the results from Carol Barrett – but
does know that our lake does not have any bacterial problems similar to some of the other local lakes as reported. One member
stated that the results are posted on the DES website as well.
The Suncook Lake has been stocked with rainbow trout this year which is a testament to the quality
of the water body.
The Dam project was discussed. Ed Neister sent a letter to the State to reapply for the permit. The
State requested that the SLA spend $XXXXXX for a survey. Ed also stated that he had spoken to a State Representative in person
as well. Ed will continue the process as the State owns the land and finds it unacceptable for them to require the SLA to
pay for a land survey.
At the SLA meeting last year, the members approved $XXXXXX to acquire a permit; Al asked if that money
could still be used, the members approved the money to be expended as it was already approved. Page | 3
Members had a discussion regarding the issues at the dam, which included the slowdown, rocks, buoys
and water flow. The rocks that are needed to be removed are impeding the water flow and the other problems at the dam. MaryLee
volunteered to get in contact with Kathleen Scambatti and invite her and others to visit to see what the actual issue is –
maybe if they see it in person they will understand the problem.
Alan Glassman mentioned that in May there was a public hearing at the Dam bureau regarding the wetlands
and stated that he was on a committee working on a hydro electric power project at the Dam. Mr. Glassman agreed to serve as
a representative from the SLA and discuss the problems at the Dam in regards to water flow issues caused from the rocks.
Several members mentioned that there have been several break-ins & mailbox vandalism at the lake
and wanted members to be aware of the problem. Al Poulin stated that the police had located the people that had done them
and there should not be further issues.
Mr. Weston who could not attend the meeting wanted members to remember that they should only use non-phosphorus
fertilizer if they fertilize their lawns near the shore line as regular fertilizer washes into the lake and enhances vegetation
growth. Ed Neister also noted not to let your grass clippings fall into the lake as they are consistently washing up on his
beach and has had to remove them frequently.
The Lower Lake boat access was discussed. One member mentioned that there was an existing access at
the Channel years ago and questioned why this could not be used. Traffic and parking would definitely be an issue due to the
width of the road. The current ramp does not adequately allow all members to get their boats under the bridge to access the
lower lake. This is a significant issue for members who live on lower. One member asked about lowering the water more, but
due to the height of the sandbar and other areas this cannot be done. A discussion then followed regarding the October 1
