^Data source:  www.alec.org   This non-profit organization lists its data sources as well.  One such source is the National Education Association.  It also states the regression analysis, hypotheses, and variables considered.

*Certified personnel are instructional staff, and resource staff.  Certified personnel are not paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, etc.  This data is extrapolated from the "Salary/Benefits" data obtained from the School Department.

^*  US Bureau of the Census, Census 2000.

I am including the above numbers because the EG Education Association and School Committee are in contract negotiations, and The Financial Town Meeting is fast approaching.  Members of the EG Education Association have expressed a desire to receive compensation comparable to 'the state average'.  I beleive the reference is to the step range, since the actual average full time teacher salary in East Greenwich is $11,474.69 higher than the actual State average.  The step range is 1-10 and the corresponding salaries range is $34,459 to $68,585.

The Step distribution is as follows:

Step       # at Step
1                    0
2                    7
3                    9
4                    6
5                  23
6                  15
7                    7
8                  11
9                  15
10              160

  • 160 of 253 are at step 10.  That's 63% of the total.
  • Steps 1 through 5 have a distribution of 45 positions.   That's 18% of the total.
  • Steps 6 through 10 have a distribution of 208 positions.   That's 82% of the total.
