Born in Malacca, Malaysia, now resides in Malden, Massachusetts.

 

Soh H. Tan Kalloch, who goes by the professional name of  SAND  T , completed her Graduate and Museum Studies programs at Tufts University and the Museum School with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in 1997.

Currently Sand T maintains an art studio in Malden, Massachusetts. Her working formats are painting, installation, 2D and 3D mixed media work. Sand T is highly skilled in community building, art promotion and visual merchandising. Her involvement in previous art initiatives include: consultation, organizational planning and implementation for profit / non-profit organizations, galleries, community institutions and individual artists. All positions have been in a management or leadership capacity.

From 1998 - 2008, Sand T operated artSPACE@16 in Malden, and S.T Gallery gallery in Boston's Fort Point district. Her artSPACE@16 gallery was awarded The BEST OF BOSTON ® HOME AWARD 2008 in the "BEST OF ART, Gallery, North" category by Boston Magazine, and voted BEST ART GALLERY for A-List 2007 conducted by WBZ-TV and CityVoter in Boston.

In March 2006, artSPACE@16 was selected by Raphaela Platow (Former curator of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts) as one of Platow’s 11 favorite Greater Boston Galleries in 2006 conducted by the Boston Globe Magazine. .

In June 2005, artSPACE@16's website was recommended by Community Arts Network APInews as a good model grassroots for advocating city redevelopment through the arts.

Her recent awards include The Malden YWCA Tribute to Women Award 2007, Ms Malden Arts 2006, grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2009) and the LEF Foundation (2006 and 2007).

Sand was nominated for a Commonwealth Awards 2007 for Outstanding Contributions to Arts and Culture in Massachusetts. She was a candidate for the Malden Citizen of the Year 2003 conducted by the Malden Observer in Malden, Massachusetts.

Sand T brings a unique fusion of arts administration, insight, and her talent as a visual artist to artSPACE@16, S.T Gallery and the ARTS community-at-large. She currently handles the web site design and maintenance for artSPACE@16 ONLINE, and continues to advocating for the arts community on the World Wide Web. MAKING THE ART SEEN  - a non commercial virtual gallery features artist interviews is her new art initiative created in April 2009.
