His files indicate that he began his research in the 1940s and continued until his death in 1976. In addition to collecting and recording state and county birth, death and marriage records, he gathered and organized the Applegate records from previous researchers, most notably, Mary E. Applegate, and Kenneth P. Applegate.
In addition to collecting the birth, death and marriage records from the state archives, he transcribed all of the Applegates in the Surrogate's office of the 21 counties in New Jersey through the 1950's.
Those records have been transcribed from his original notes by me and have been shared with two contemporary Applegate researchers, Hugh Voorees of Charles Town, West Virginia and Howard G. Applegate of Canutillo, Texas.

Genesis of Ocean County Applegates
The records indicate that most of the Applegates that have been residents of Ocean County are decedants of Bartholomew1 the eldest son of Thomas the immigrant. The document in this link provides an oultine of the first four known generations of Bartholomew1Jacob5 Applegate and Esther Irons
By far, the largest number of Applegates in Ocean County are descendants of Jacob and Esther. This is a work in progress. A paper copy of this material is available from the Ocean County Historical Society.Thomas L. Applegate & Hannah T. Thompson
At the present time, the most complete set of Applegate materials relate to the line of Thomas L. Applegate (1792-1868) and Hannah Thompson (1796-1871). As you guess, I'm a member of that line.Historical Documents:
