Tor
is currently located in Cancun. There are certain dogs that truly need to get out of the poor conditions down there some
have a more urgent need and Tor is one of them.
Tor is about 5 years old. He has a lovely demeanor. He's neutered
and has all shots. He's good on a leash and is very good-natured. He will make an excellent companion. He's also quite imposing
to look at and will make an excellent watch-dog.
Tor was found after being hit by a car. The vet's idea of rehabilitation
was to have him tied to a tree for 2 months! So he favors that leg a bit. Despite the bad injury and very bad vet care, his
recovery has been quite good.
He has been under-socialized for the last
4 months but is still quite the LOVE BUG. Obviously, he is a special boy that deserves a great home with love and care and
deserves a second chance and regular exercise.
In March of 2009, Tor was assessed by a Dog Trainer from Canada and
here is what she writes:
"I think Tor could make it just fine in a 2 dog household or as an only dog. I did not see
any aggression in him. What I did see was confusion. He has temporarily lost the ability to be part of a pack and that
is translating into some assertive behavior. Putting fences between dogs often fuels the fire and I suspect that is what is
going on with him. Alone, and perhaps in pain.
When I brought
him back from our little walk, another dog came up and growled at Tor and there was a moment of dog tension but both dogs
backed down with a quick correction. I would love to have his leg checked out to see if it is repairable, because it
very well may be and then he could be pain free.
My assessment of him is that he is a nice dog. He was pretty good
on a leash - more interested in sniffing than engaging with me but I put that down to his not getting out much. But I was
able to physically move him around, look at his teeth, move his head for a picture etc and he was fine with that.
Weight.
He is a good sized dog. I would estimate about 70 lbs"
If someone is interested in Tor they should call Melody for
additional information. It would be no problem to get Tor to the New England area. Some people may think that dogs
down in Cancun are very mean, when in fact, it is the complete opposite, they are so devoted and loving and laid back. Melody
says, "If someone was interested in him I could work it out with them in the future to have his leg checked and help with
the bill."

At SLA today a young couple were turning
in a box at the receiving area. A pit bull puppy had been left on their door-step and after spending close to $800 at
a local veterinarian they were told that the puppy had parvo and was going to die. They had brought her to the shelter to
be euthanized.
Coco was in the box shivering but still trying to hold her head up. We rushed this baby girl to our
vet where she is now fighting for her life. She is receiving fluids, tamaflu and also a platelet transfusion in the hopes
that we can save her life. She is just 8 weeks old.
We will do anything we can to save this little one but we could
also use some help. If you can, please consider a donation for Coco at adogsliferescue.org but, most importantly, please all send your love, prayers and good thoughts to Coco tonight. She needs them.
HAPPY ENDINGS
Kurt Fuller who plays Zachariah, on Supernatural, and his family recently adopted Nala
from A Dog's Life Rescue. How cute are he and his girls with their new family member!?!
Thank you Fuller family for giving Nala another chance to have a wonderful life!!!
Nala was rescued from the South Los Angeles Shelter by one of our volunteers,
Lisa. Nala was terrified when Lisa first saw her. One of her kennel mates kept biting at her and chasing
her so she ended up cowering in the back of the kennel. (The shelter is such a stressful place that the animals
all have anxiety which comes out in different ways). After some TLC at Lisa's house and some good play time with the
other dogs, Nala came around quickly. Now Nala is in a wonderful forever home... it's a definitely love match!
