Organization

Our unit is organized like a company sized task force from an armored division. At large events we may field a platoon of tanks or TDs and a platoon of armored infantry. There is one officer in the unit. He typically wears the bars of a second lieutenant. Rank in the unit is assigned according to the TO&E of the specific unit. Those individuals that hold rank have worked to obtain that rank. They are not ranks for “show”. These men are your leaders and are charged with the responsibility of keeping you safe and teaching you. Make their jobs easier and work with them.

Each event’s attendance will determine the actual organization of the unit.

Organization cont’d

The historic organization of an armored infantry platoon has 5 squads, 1 Platoon HQ and rifle squad, 2 rifle squads, 1 Light MG squad and 1 mortar squad. These platoons have a tremendous amount of integral fire support. All men are transported in halftracks and each of these halftracks have .50 and .30 cal MGs in mounts.

This organization allows the armored infantry platoon to pack a greater “punch” than a typical infantry squad. Armored infantry units usually carried a great deal of extra ammunition and it was not uncommon to find halftracks carrying grenades, banglore torpedoes, anti tank mines, cases of rifle ammo and 1 or 2 bazookas with rockets.
