Magarick Antique Cards 6

This really different French Costume Deck is unique because of it's gold pips. I've never seen one quite like it. Costume packs typically displayed fashions of the day and are beautifully hand colored. Some identify the courts as historical characters. This pack seems to show generic illustrations. The maker is not identified, but the deck is very similar to those of Grimaud and Gilbert.

Jeu Imperial by B.P. Grimaud of Paris C 1860. There were two styles of these wonderful costume cards produced. One with square corners and the other with rounded corners. This one's round with gilt edges. The aces all represent geographical empires like England and Austria while the courts represent rulers and court members of the day. (Aren't the aces great!)

Thanks goodness for small favors! The J.G.Schultz family of Leipizg made their wonderful and delightfully illustrated cards easy to identify. Although I've seen similar cards to these in Cary, the exact dates of this deck eludes me. And any HELP would be appreciated. I've always admired the illustrations. They were fairly common around the middle of the 19th century.
