Looking back over the course of this class and the various assignments, I will say
that the argument and persuasion was my favorite writing task. I feel very strongly
about the subject and it was pretty easy to sit down and write from the heart. To
me that type of writing has always been the easiest, it's something that you feel passionate about or have knowledge about
and the words just seem to flow. I then just needed to go back and find specific
quotes or passages from material that I already was familiar with and incorporate them into my writing.
For several reasons my most difficult assignment was the first reading and writing forum (immigration). Once again this was a subject that I have strong feelings about.
However, it's a very debatable topic and to just put out your opinion on this type of subject is difficult, it's a
subject that requires a debate (and has been debated for hundreds of years in this country).
To state your opinion and have one person reply with no more correspondence is extremely difficult. Another difficult aspect of this assignment was the fact that it was done in an on-line forum. It is very difficult to "argue" without face to face interactions.
What one person writes as an innocent or benign comment can be construed by someone else as condescending or possibly
even inflammatory.
For me this class was a catalyst to get myself writing again. I have written
several things in the past and really enjoyed it. Over the last few years things
in my life have changed and I had nothing to "spark" me into writing. I've told
myself several times over the last year or two that I need to get back into it but always had some reason or excuse why I
couldn't. Two things happened to change that mindset. One was being asked by someone after a recent motorcycle ride if I would write-up the trip. I was apprehensive at first but finally said that I'd do it. This
was right about the time that I was to enroll in this class. Therefore I had
two things now pushing me to get going on this writing thing again.
