The most creative political satire of the 1980's was spitting image. This was a UK TV show that lampooned pliticains,
the royal family and the famous. The satire was cutting sparing none. The Queen Mother was portrayed as a gin
swilling but loveable granny and the Pope, a hip hop artist. The worst treatment was reserved for politicians.
Margret Thatcher: sinister, ruthless and dictitorial.
Ronald Reagan: bumbling character - the show ran a series "the Presidents Brain is Missing". A walnut went on a
world tour.
However cruel the treatment of Thatcher and Reagan, worse was reserved for the Liberals. David Steel - a tiny squeeky
character in the pocket of David Own. However, Labour faired little better. Neil Kinnock was portrayed as a clown.
Spitting Image Spawned a series of "collectors items":
Dog Toys
Ceramic Chinna
Key Rings
Books
Puppets
Videos
Games
Political Playing Cards
The use of playing cards in Iraq, to show wanted BA'TTH party members is not new. Playing cards with a satirical
message are as old as card games. My collection is Kennedy onwards......
