THE DOUG SOFIELD MEMORIAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT IS
JUNE 29 - JULY 1, 2007!

Douglas Andrew Sofield was 42 when he was brutally murdered in his home in Drexel Hill on July 23, 2005 while saving his wife’s life. Doug was father to Leah (17) and Christine (15), husband to Suzette and the oldest of 4 children. He was employed by the Unisource Corporation and quickly rose to the position of Senior Manager in the IT Department, a position which he held at the time of his death.

Doug, the man, the husband, the father, was a fearless weekend warrior, who tackled everything including, plumbing, electricity carpentry and masonry. Nothing deterred him! All it took was a how-to manual and the job was done. Doug was completely devoted to his family and sincerely enjoyed being with them. From shopping, to concerts, to chauffeuring the girls and their friends he always made sure a “super deluxe” time was had by all. He shared his vast knowledge and work experience with anyone who asked. He was a mentor in the truest sense of the word. Doug was a hero in life, and ultimately in his death, as he sacrificed his life to save his wife. For more about Doug, his lifestyle and his character, log on to www.legacy.com and enter his name, click on Search and then on Guest Book.

On June 29 - July 1, 2007, the Third Annual Doug Sofield Memorial Tournament will be held in Souderton.
The first year’s tournament seeded the Sofield Family Education Fund, which will be held in account until Doug’s children begin their college educations.  Last year and hereafter, proceeds from the tournament seed a fund to award scholarships to local high school seniors whose lives have been affected in some way by violent crime.  We have raised about $10,000 over the last two years!

Roger Sofield, Doug’s brother, says, “It is our hope that, through this annual tournament, we can help our nieces now and, in the future, help other surviving children of victims of violent crime. This will preserve my brother’s good name and exemplary life in a way that will honor him and how he lived life – as an honorable man and true hero.”

Contributions can be sent to:
