Step 7. Square OFF
The most important task is to Square Off each pair after it is sewn together. Use the square ruler and mat, square all pairs or images after joining new images. Square rulers are useful quilter's tool.
|
Step 8. Sew Two's Once the pairs are together and squared off, next join pairs to make fours in the same manner as the twos. Square OFF and Press seams towards the sashing
|
Step 9. Building Up. Some images are not the same size, height nor width. Add extra sashing to bottom or sides of the image to make it the size as the joining image before putting on sashing. Square OFF and Press seams open.
|
Step 10. Square OFF
Join 8's, Square OFF and press seams open; then sew the last 4 to finish the quilt top.
You may need longer sashing to join large blocks together.
If your quilt top is larger than your quilt mat, use a measuring tape to measure left and right margin widths moving down the block making sure the widths are the same, top to bottom. The top, middle, and bottom of the quilt should be the same widths. Continue to measure as you join blocks. In this instance, 12 images will fit on one large mat (24 x 26).
