Step 11. Inner Borders.
When all of the images are joined to make one quilt top, add one narrow border around the entire quilt. Measure the width and height of the quilt and cut the border fabric - 1.5 to 2 inches wide of coordinating fabric. Sew the side borders to the quilt. Measure the width to make the top border that same width. Sew the top and bottom borders then the side borders. Press borders.
First quilters, use straight corners. Advanced quilters can mitre the corners. *Measure the quiltÕs width and height from top to bottom.
Step 12. Outer Borders. These can be wider than the inner border and a different complimentary fabric. Follow the same procedure above, cutting the side borders 3 to 4 inches in width and the height and width of the quilt. Cut fabric for the top and bottom borders and sew together; sew the side borders and press.
