Work in Progress
In addition to the genealogy and family history projects that have been completed
under auspices of the American Society for Genealogy and Family History (see
"Publications" for the list of completed work), the Society is supporting a number of
on-going research projects. If you have information that may be helpful in shaping
future genealogical and family history research or the completion of any of these
projects identified here, please contact Dr. Robert R. King,
the President of the Society. The following is a listing of these works in progress.
The Life and Descendants of James Isaac Atkinson, with Information
about the family of Franklin Henry Rudy and Margaret Ann Reed
Rudy - James Isaac Atkinson was born in 1842 in Sackville, New Brunswick, the
son of William Atkinson and Phoebe Campbell Atkinson. The Society has
already published a volume on his Father's ancestry and children. See Robert R.
King and Kay Atkinson King, The Ancestry and Descendants of William Atkinson
of Sackville, New Brunswick and Bountiful, Utah (McLean, VA: American Society
for Genealogy and Family History, 1991), 156 pages. James Isaac migrated to Utah with his family in 1853. The projected
research will deal with the following issues:
- His marriage in 1870 to Hannah Pauline Brown, the daughter of William
Brown and Elizabeth Andrews. They were the parents of nine children, all
born in Woods Cross, Davis County, Utah. Information is being sought on all
children, all grandchildren and as many great grandchildren as possible.
- His life. James Isaac Atkinson played a prominent role in a number of
building projects in Bountiful and South Bountiful during his life time. In
addition, he was an officer and member of the Board of the Deseret Live
Stock Company from the time it was formed in 1890 until his death in 1933.
The company was one of the largest in the state of Utah, and owned
substantial land in Woodruff, Rich, Tooele, and Salt Lake Counties.
- The Family of Franklin Henry Rudy and Margaret Ann Reed Rudy.
Three of James Isaac Atkinson's children married children of Franklin Henry
Rudy and Margaret Ann Reed Rudy. Franklin Henry Rudy was born in
Pennsylvania, and his family is Pennsylvania German. They migrated to Utah
in the 1860s. Margaret Ann Reed Rudy is a descendant of one of John and
Rebecca Bearce Reed, who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints (Mormon) in the fall of 1830 in Ohio, and they were among the earliest
converts to the new church. The family is descended from very early
Massachusetts and Connecticut settlers. There were nine Rudy children, and
we are seeking information on all of the children and grand children.
The Family of John Nicton King - John Nicton King was born May 1831 in
Sevier County, Tennessee, the son of Wiley King and Margaret Adair King. John
Nicton King married about 1851 probably in Sevier County, Tennessee, Nancy
Elizabeth Nations, the daughter of John and Kissiah Nations. The Society has
already published a volume on his Father's ancestry and children. See Robert R.
King, Wiley King and Margaret Adair King of Little Greenbrier Cove, Sevier
County, Tennessee(McLean, VA: American Society for Genealogy and Family
History, 1997), 132 pages. $15.00. The research on John Nicton King
and his family is looking at the following areas.
- Between 1860 and 1870, John Nicton King and his family moved to
Campbell County, Tennessee. The family later lived a few miles away to
Whitley County, Kentucky. The research will attempt to follow their
movement and determine the reasons for these changes of residence. John
Nicton King and Nancy Elizabeth Nations King died after 1900.
- They were parents of ten children. We are undertaking research on each of
these children, their spouses, their children, and where the individual families
settled. The children settled in and around Campbell County, Tennessee,
Whitley County, Kentucky, and Gibson County, Indiana. Research will
attempt to determine the places of residence.
- In addition to the King Family, we will attempt to gather additional
information about the family lines and genealogy of the spouses of the
children of John Nicton King and Nancy Elizabeth Nations King.
The Family of William Webb and Emma Stokes Webb in Lehi and
other Communities in Utah - William Webb and Emma Stokes Webb were
from Studham, Bedfordshire, England. They were converts to the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) in the 1850s and the emigrated to Utah in
1864. They were the parents of five sons and one daughter. Although two sons
died before they married, three sons and their one daughter had large families in
Utah. The three sons raised families in Lehi, Utah, and they and their families were
major contributors to in the community. We are seeking any information on the
children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of William Webb and Emma
Stokes Webb. The four children who married and had families, all born in Studham,
Bedfordshire, England, are:
- John Stokes Webb - born in 1831, he was the first to come to Utah, arriving
in 1854. He settled in Lehi, the following year. He married Hannah Grace in
1854 and they were the parents of nine children.
- Ann Webb - born in 1833, she apparently emigrated to Utah with her brother
John Stokes Webb in 1854. In 1855 in Salt Lake City, she married James
Pace, who was born in Tennessee. She was his third wife. Ann lived first in
Payson, Utah County, Utah, and then later lived in Harmony and Washington,
Washington County, Utah. She was the mother of eight children. She died in
Thatcher, Graham County, Arizona.
- George Webb - born in 1839, he emigrated to Utah with his parents and his
son in 1864. His first wife, Julia Cushing, died in Nebraska on the journey to
Utah. He married Mary Ann Ward in 1865, and they were the parents of nine
children. The Society has already published a volume on The life of Mary
Ann Ward Webb: Robert R. King and Kay Atkinson King, Mary Ann Ward
Webb: Her Life and Ancestry (McLean, VA: American Society for
Genealogy and Family History, 1997), 126 pages. $15.00.
