It
is most important that we never compromise the safety of the children or the integrity of what we are trying to accomplish
in our summer sessions.
Given the popularity of the program, it is necessary for us to indicate on our cover letter to
you that all registrations will be received on a first come, first served basis. Even
though there is a deadline for the form, often the spots close before the deadline. The most important reasons why we may
not be able to accommodate your first option are:
Safety:
As
you are well aware, we are experiencing a rather serious shortage of space. Even in the summer, we share the school facilities
with Trini-Camp. So, we must limit the numbers for our children to 144 per session,
( 12 children per class) Trini-camp also has those approximate numbers at the school simultaneously..
Drop
off and dismissal activities must be coordinated with the awareness of over 200 children.
Safety is our number one priority.
In
addition, we have 2 of every grade, and while it seems that 12 children per catechist seems very manageable, we must be aware
that these groups come together for such activities as crafts, games and rituals.
Then, the number of children double because the 2 classes per grade are together, doubling the numbers. Thus, the activities
for the children have groups of 24. The spaces we have provided for this cannot
safely handle more that that number.
VOLUNTEERS:
Our
program in the summer, as well as the winter, depends largely on the goodness of volunteers.
We may, in good faith, open a class for a popular grade but be unable to get someone to teach the grade or supervise
the activity. This would force us to close that particular class.
