The CATHOLIC CHURCH

of the

HOLY TRINITY

136 YEARS STRONG

AND GROWING!

MAY IS MARY’S MONTH!

“The Rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the Rosary is beyond description.”

                          Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

TRINITY SUNDAY

Key Passage: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”  (John 3:16)

Adult: How will God’s mercy and love for the world be revealed through you this week?

Child: Do you know someone who is sick or is feeling badly that you can visit this week?

JESUS WANTS YOU!

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;

so ask the master of the harvest

to send out laborers for his harvest.”

The priests and religious of tomorrow are in our parish, among us now - - young people who want lives that will make a difference, that will have an impact. PRAY mightily that many such young people will choose to make a difference by following the call of the Good Shepherd to the priesthood, the sisterhood, and the brotherhood.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU ENCOURAGED YOUR DAUGHTER/SON, GRANDDAUGHTER/

GRANDSON, NIECE/NEPHEW, OR YOUR FRIEND TO GIVE SERIOUS CONSIDERATION TO THE POSSIBILITY OF BECOMING A PRIEST, SISTER, OR BROTHER? If you don’t, then who will?

STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE – The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form. “God loved . . . God gave. . .” is the paradigm for stewardship – we give because we love.

SAVE THE DATE!

Holy Trinity CYO Basketball

A Mass and a dinner recently capped a successful fourth season of the Holy Trinity Parish CYO Basketball program. Some 70 children participated in the program. The coaching staff included: Bill Fitzpatrick and Steve Criscuolo (fourth grade Green), Frank McIntyre and Chris Walter (fourth grade White), Anthony Cavallo (boys 5-6 grade), Tom Luzzi (boys 7-8 grade), Criscuolo, Rob Coloney, Larry D'amico and Maggie Fitzpatrick (girls 5-6 grade), and Coloney and Bryant Pantano (girls 7-8 grade).

Coaches Coloney (girls 5-6 grade) and Criscuolo (fourth grade) and their teams were recognized for perfect seasons. Criscuolo's team also won the recent Westfield 4th Grade benefit tournament for Sister Pat's Camp while Coloney's team won the CYO championship against an excellent squad from St. Thomas in Rahway.

At the dinner Coloney, a senior at St. Peter's Prep, was presented with a plaque to commemorate his service to the program over the last two years. Bryant Pantano was also recognized for his commitment to Holy Trinity CYO; he assisted Coloney with the 7-8 grade girls and will "graduate" from the program as his daughters move on to Mount Saint Mary Academy.

In summing up the season Bill Fitzpatrick, the programs Athletic Director said, "We are proud of all of our kids and grateful to their families for allowing them to participate in our program, which is relatively new. We know they have many basketball choices and so we are really thrilled with how well the program is doing. It is a great way for parish families to celebrate community and have fun together."

HTIS SCHOOL NEWS

To accommodate our growing enrollment, we have opened an additional PreK-3 class and have expanded our PreK-4 program.  There are still a few openings available in these and other grades.  For more information regarding our full-day Kindergarten and Pre-K classes, please call the Mountainside Campus at (908) 233-1899.  For information regarding Grades 1-8, please call the Westfield Campus at (908) 233-0484.

Spring is a thrilling time in Kindergarten! The students have planted seeds and have been observing them as they grow from seedling to mature marigold plants. They are also observing caterpillars as they progress through their life cycle.

-On May 7, all of the Pre-K and Kindergarten students took a trip to the Morristown Theater to see the production of "Madeline and the Bad Hat".

-To further enhance their writing skills, Mrs. Mruk's first grade class have become pen-pals with the 2nd grade class at Hillside Academy. Both classes are enjoying reading and responding to their respective pen-pals.

-To supplement their science curriculum, the 3rd grade classes enjoyed a visit from "Stewie", a live tortoise. The students experienced hands-on learning about habitat, food, and other unique features of Stewie.

-Mrs. Green's 6th grade class received a "Thank you" and a certificate from the Ladies' Auxiliary VFW Post #6808 of Garwood for their participation in the Pennies for Cancer project. Over a period of several months, the students generously filled a jar with pennies and donated the proceeds to this project.
