The Ministry of Leadership Development calls forth, affirms and empowers the diverse gifts, talents and abilities of young people in our faith community. Leaders are formed through weekly meetings, specialized trainings, and a leadership retreat. The Leaders function as Peer Ministers in our Junior High and High School Catholic Youth Organizations. Peer Ministers also comprise our Retreat Teams for the four retreat opportunities that our parish offers it’s young people each year. As well Peer Ministers lead in service projects, fundraisers and prayer events.

HS and Jr. High Peer Ministers are responsible for the weekly CYO meetings. Team members collaborate with an Adult Advisor to develop the content of each CYO meeting. Team members research relevant topics, design community building and personal growth activities, facilitate group discussions, invites, empowers and challenges other young people to participate in the life, mission and work of the faith community.

As well, Team members collaborate with an Adult Advisor to plan and implement the retreat experience. Retreat members give presentations, facilitate discussion groups, coordinate activities, and provide worship and prayer experiences.

Young people who are interested in serving as Peer Ministers need to complete an application and be interviewed. Applicants must apply by June 20. The Leadership Retreat will be held from August 24-26, 2005 at the Felecian Retreat House in Mt. Arlington.  The cost is $45.00.

The following are some questions to assist you in your discernment process.

Do I have a sincere desire to grow in my relationship with Jesus and the community?

Do my words and actions witness to God’s presence in my life?

Have I accepted Jesus’ invitation to discipleship?

Can I invite other young people into the adventure of discipleship?

Do I recognize my unique gifts/ talents?

Am I willing to share my gifts generously, consistently and responsibly?

Is God calling me at this time to serve as a Peer Minister?
