In the 1980's through the mid 1990's I painted mostly abstract pieces. I used a variety of materials and worked on prepared acetate, paper, and canvas. Many pieces are textural and tactile to the touch. I started doing portraits in 1996. I met Patty Donahue who had been the lead singer of The Waitresses. I told her I would do a portrait for her birthday. Then I found out she was dying of cancer. I did the painting "Patty" in homage to her. I did more portraits after. These paintings still incorporate many of the textural materials I used in the abstract paintings.
