Low Carb Product Reviews

I've listed my favorite low-carb products here. I know that tastes differ quite a bit, but I'm always happy to hear that SOMEONE liked a product before I go spend the money on it!

Davinci Syrups

These are must-haves in my opinion. My favorites are Amaretto, Raspberry, Chocolate, French Vanilla, Orange, and Maple Syrup. The only one I tried that I was disappointed in was the Hazelnut, as it didn't have enough flavor for me.

Uses:
Coffee - about 1 Tbsp per mug
Yogurt - I use 4 "heaping" Tbsp of Amaretto in a large container of plain full-fat yogurt
Baking - can be used for any type of muffins or baked goods - just replace some of the liquid with the syrup. May want to cut down on sweetener
Stir-frys - I mix the orange with soy sauce and some spices for a great sauce

Atkins Products

Endulge Bars- I love these! They taste like regular candy to me. I've tried most of the other low-carb chocolate bars but these are the only ones I've bought more than once.

Muffin Mix - I've tried the Blueberry, Cranberry Orange, and Corn and find them all excellent. I made the Cranberry and Corn using the directions from the box, but tweaked the Blueberry by adding an extra egg (4 altogether), substituting 1/2 cup heavy cream for some of the water, and using 1 stick melted butter and no oil. It really makes a difference. (I did try the Brownies and didn't like them at all)
Advantage Bars - The New & Improved (do NOT buy the original) Chocolate Peanut Butter bars are great. They're very chewy and "peanut buttery" and don't leave the "waxy taste" in your mouth that the old ones did. I've tried many of the new and improved and while the others were just okay, I seek out the peanut butter ones.

KETO Chocolate Ice Cream Mix

I made the ice cream just as directed on the container, in an ice cream machine, but added 3 tsp of glycerin that Keto recommended to keep the ice cream from freezing rock hard. Right out of the maker, it was just like Dairy Queen soft serve to us. I froze the remaining portions in individual containers, and moved them from the freezer to the refrigerator about an hour before eating.

Designer French Vanilla Whey Protein Powder

When I first started this WOE I tried a few of the soy protein powders and detested them. I then tried this one and have been using it ever since. I don't find the vanilla flavor very strong so I use it in all recipes, whether for sweet or savory items.

Almond Flour

While this is not an actual manufactured low-carb product, I find that most things I make with it turn out even better than with the protein powder. I've made cookies, brownies and pancakes, and find them to be closer in taste and texture to the real thing.

Xanthan Gum

Of the three thickeners I've tried (the others were guar gum and Expert Foods not/Starch) this is the best. It doesn't leave a slimy taste like guar gum does, and I think it thickens better than the not/Starch. It's very potent and clumps easily. I sprinkle about 1/4 tsp at a time and whisk WELL and then repeat. You only need about 1/2 tsp to thicken 1 cup of liquid, and you should always stop BEFORE it's thick enough. Let stand a few minutes, and you can always add more.
