Jasmine's Christmas Star

Teenaged Jasmine, granddaughter of one of the Magi, decides she’s going to disguise herself and join the caravan following the star of Bethlehem, dragging childhood companion Meshach into another one of her “hare brained” schemes. Meanwhile King Herod takes extreme measures to protect his throne from a rival king.  Characters: 12 M, 3 F, as many extras as desired     Run Time: 2 acts, 45 min.

The Well

The birth of Jesus is presented giving attention to the gossip that might have occurred when Mary claims to carry the Son of God.  Follows the Biblical account with a place for Christmas carols or suitable songs to be added.  Final scene takes place at the Well at Samaria with Jesus talking to the woman who came to draw water.  10 female, 8 male, doubling possible, extras as angels, shepherds, Magi and servants.  Run Time approximately 22 minutes without songs.

Dateline: Bethlehem - Reactions to Jesus Birth
Characters: 9 M, 3F, 3 either; doubling possible , Run time: 22 minutes
Examines the reactions of six people (Mary, Joseph, Simeon, Herod, shepherds and the Wise Man) to the birth of Jesus.  A TV Host shows “clips” of a reporter’s interviews with eye witnesses and then invites comments from a Jewish teacher of the law, Antonius, a centurion and Anna, who actually met the Christ child.  Can be done with little set and a split stage divided effectively with lighting or video tape the clips and play.  Run time is approximately 22 minutes. Doubling is possible and extra non-speaking shepherds and background people can be added.

Alien at Christmas Time
An out of this world look at how we celebrate the holiday.

Stars in the Christmas Eve Sky and After Christmas Stars
Two versions.  One for before Christmas; one for after.  A silly Christmas comedy set in the Stellar Departure Department of heaven.  The egotistical stars, a frantic Mr. Sandman and one lost child will have the audience laughing whether you present this as a bare stage, simple set or reader's theater production.  Mr. Sandman has himself in a tizzy trying to get the vain and hyperactive stars into the sky ontime while trying to figure out what to do with what he thinks is a new star who cames without instructions.  In the meantime the Star of Bethlehem explains the events inthe winter sky some 2000 years ago.  3 females, 1 male, 2 either and 1 child (few spoken lines.  Run time 15 minutes.
If you do nursing or retirement home ministries consider doing After Christmas Stars.  From years of nursing home and rehab hospital work I know many groups and organizations do special things for residents before the holiday.  Then there is that terrible after Christmas slump for the residents. Depression, winter blues set in and the death rate sharply increases.  This short version can be done to pick up their spirits and if done as reader's theater requires very little prep.
