Plan for using Choral Reading Power Points

These can be done in a variety of ways; feel free to adapt them to your own situation.  The suggestions below are not designed to cover the Biblical content of the slides

As a language arts or a dramatic activity these provide opportunities for participants to practice reading aloud. For most, a minimum of three readings is needed to fully develop fluidity, comprehension, inflection and improve confidence.  Additional readings may help with memorization.  As David often alluded to in the Psalms, having God’s word firmly planted in the heart is a blessing for all time.

These can be used as audition pieces or to help students practice looking up at the power point (rather than down at a book or script which makes for bad habits when performing).

Choral reading pieces can be used in classes, discussion groups, worship, between scenes during plays while the set is being changed, etc.  Your imagination and creativity are the only limits.

Most participants will be motivated to do multiple readings diligently when the prospect of performing the piece is possible.  Break things up while practicing by assigning different roles to different readers.  Older participants can discuss the tone of the author based on his circumstances and how a performer should deliver the lines to best capture the meaning.

For performance, some lines are designed for audience participation (and in addition provide rationale for having lines available for the performers as well).  Nevertheless many performers should memorize their lines and only glance at the screen if absolutely necessary.  Strong voices that can enunciate clearly and slow their pace to an audience’s is essential because the more voices joining in, the less quickly the speaker can lead them.

Choral readings can be just that – seated reading relying on the performer’s voice to do it all or may include blocking, costumes and props.

One fabulous component of earthly consequence is not having to run scripts – just refer participants to their Bibles between practicing formally.

The most important component is the heart.  When reading and dwelling on the word of God do so with reverence and an openness to His message.  When speaking it aloud, do so to His Glory.

Biblically based science power points aligned with Virginia SOLs and National standards are also available free of charge through the teacherpayteachers website. Because of file size limitations on this site I can only offer a limited number of power points through this site.  God bless.
