Here are some actual letters written to Bud. BOY! He's been getting a lot lately! Do you have a question you'd like to ask? Or maybe you'd like to share a travel experience or snapshot of your own. Write to Bud, he'd love to hear from you!
Dear Bud
My friend and I read your pages with great interest. We particuarly enjoyed
the picture of you scuba diving.
Where abouts are you based, Bud? If you ever make it round to England again
within the next year, do you think you would be interested in coming to
one of college parties in Kent?
I live with my parents so it is not always possible to have people to stay
but I am sure we can find somewhere to prop you up on the campus.
Kind regards and cheers for an interesting webpage. Where are you off to
next?
Your mates
Steve (and Laura)
Dear Steve (and Laura),
Thanks for your letter. I'm glad you like my pictures. Scuba diving is fun. I'd never done it before. Actually, I wasn't scuba diving, though, because I didn't have any air tank or anything, only a mask. I don't breath so it was okay.
I live in Baltimore, Maryland which is on the East coast of the USA. Baltimore is near the top of the Chesapeake Bay, which you can see on most globes and maps of the world, even small ones.
I have no problem where to stay when I visit England. The friends I travel with have relatives and friends all over the world, including the UK. It makes it much cheaper for me to travel that way, since I mostly only pay airfare. They are very nice to put me up.
Even though we try to travel cheaply, the last trip to Fiji, NZ and Australia was pretty darn expensive and it'll be awhile before I go that far away again. But I would like to visit Madrid and Rome and Athens and Cairo and Bombay and Tokyo and the Galapagos Islands and Rio de Janeiro...
Sincerely, Bud
Hey, Bud
The most recent photos are spectacular. I know you must have REALLY
enjoyed that trip. Too bad you couldn't ski, though.
Your Pal,
Marian Savige
Dear Marian,
Gosh, thanks! I'm glad you like the pictures. Yes, I had a great time and was only a little disappointed that I couldn't go skiing. Being a mannequin sometimes means that there are things I can't do. But that's ok. I can't change who I am and try not to think about stuff like that. I just try to enjoy myself by doing lots of the things that I can do.
Sincerely, Bud
I think your site is just wonderful. I love to travel
myself, and I am making a Web page about it.
Do you have a girlfriend? You seem like exactly the
type of boy I would like to share a milkshake with.
Maybe we can chat by e-mail. I am pretty though maybe
not as pretty as the picture of Barbie in Paris you
have. I think you look like Robin the Boy Wonder--not
the modern movies but like Burt Ward in the 1960's TV
series. He was very handsome :) :)
Take care and keep on travelling!
Dear Alexandra,
I have lots of friends who are girls but I haven't really started dating or anything. I don't think I'm old enough. Some kids give me hard time about that and tease me and think I'm way old fashioned for thinking that way. But I was made in the early '60s so maybe that's why I'm old fashioned. Also, maybe that's why you think I look like Robin in the '60s TV show too.
I think milkshakes are great. Barbie is a professional and makes her living by being pretty. But I bet, for an amateur, you're probably very pretty too. Let me know when you have your travel website up. I'd like to learn about the places you've been to. I can put a link to it from my site too. But only if you say it's ok.
Sincerely, Bud
I knew you would be very nice, and I bet you have cool
friends too. My Web site is in the baby-stages, but
when it is good I will send you the address--thank you
for your interest!
I may be too old for you, Bud. You look so very mature
in your pictures. But I am a college graduate, that
much we have decided. We haven't decided my exact age
yet. FYI, if you ever think about going to college
there is one I found on the Internet called Capitol University in the British Virgin Islands that will
grant you a degree based on your real-life experience.
It takes about 2 weeks and $400. That's going to be my
alma mater, and I think my degree will be Travel and
Tourism.I have't tried it yet so I don't know how well
it works but you could always look into it when you
get ready for college.
I'll check back on your site lots! Take care and have
a groovy weekend!
--Alexandra
Dear Alexandra,
I've never considered getting a college degree. I know that lots of people want one, what good is it actually? I like learning stuff but I don't know what I'd use it for. Good luck with your studies, though. It sounds like fun.
Sincerely, Bud
I was reading in your Guestbook that your friend says
he is broke after your latest journeys. There are
plenty of wonderful adventures you guys could have
right here in the area (I see you live in Baltimore).
Harper's Ferry, WV is a very educational day-trip;
Amish country in Pennsylvania is nice now that all the
tourists have slowed down. Williamsburg is a very nice
weekend trip if you've never been there. And I could
give you inside info on Washington, D.C. Don't forget
your backyard when you get that travellin' itch!
I have spent quite a bit of time roaming this area
(within 500 miles of D.C.), and if something in
particular interests you please feel free to ask for
advice. I'm glad you liked Luray, that's a special
spot.
Stay groovy!
Alexandra
Dear Alexandra,
I've all around the Mall, in the center of Washington DC. It is very pretty there, especially in the spring time. I would like to go to Harper's Ferry sometime, that is a good idea, thanks! I'm not sure how the Amish people would react to me, though. They can have some pretty old fashioned ideas.
Sincerely, Bud
Now why is Bud going all over the world?
Ross
Ross,
I am going all over the world because when I retired from retail sales I thought it'd be nice to see new places and make new friends. Retired people often pursue interests that they were unable to follow while they were employed. Some garden, some build model railroads and some travel. It's perfectly normal; there's nothing unusual about it at all.
Sincerely, Bud
Bud,
Have you ever thought about going to Spain? I went there with some friends
last spring and thought it was just lovely. People dress well there.
You'd fit right in.
Judy
Dear Judy,
I've probably thought about going everywhere on Earth. Whenever I go somewhere I always think about all the other places I could be going to, too. I've thought about Spain a lot. I'm glad you went there and had a good time with your friends. I like to dress neatly but I don't mind if other people don't. I think it's more important how you act than how you dress. But I wouldn't go to Spain when they run away from the bulls in the streets, though. I don't run very fast and would get run over, I think.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud
Have added you link to our links page, hope to see a reciprocal link
in your site...

Dear Lisa,
You have a great travel site with lots of really great pictures. I went to both the English and Portugese sites. I wish I could speak Portugese, that site looks even more interesting. Thanks for including my page. I will be sure to add your website on my links pages in a few days.
Sincerely, Bud
Actually Bud,
The sites are exactly the same and unfortunately my Brazilian husband
dosen't have time to translate all the English stories, he just translates
our own. So in the Portuguese version there`s lots of English. I`m curious
to know why you thought they were different. Did you perhaps go to our
Rave On site? There`s an English version of that too www.raveon.com.br
I live in Brazil and I`m a New Zealander, wish I could speak Portugese
too -it's not all that easy, well for me anyway
Take care Bud,
oh Bud,
Forgot to say "thanks for your kind words", and we're really happy you
enjoy the site. I guess my last reply was a bit snappy, didn't mean it to be- it's just I give both sites equal time.
Have fun out there!

Dear Lisa,
Actually, I just meant that the Portuguese side seemed so much more exotic because the language is very intriguing to someone who doesn't speak it. I didn't think you were snappy at all!
Where in New Zealand are you from? I visited Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. It is the by far most beautiful country I've ever seen. But then, I haven't been to South America yet. I have to go there soon.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Barbie,
I'm glad you liked Paris as much as I did. I met some nice kids when I was there and we played in the park. You are very pretty.
Sincerely, Bud
hey bud,
you need to go to Kentucky. We have all kinds of neat things...
like the Ohio river (which really belongs to Kentucky), horse farms galore,
a really neat aquarium in Northern Kentucky and besides that all kinds
of hicks... don't you want ot get your picture taken with the good Kentucky
hillbillies? Come on yall! Visit Kentucky!!!
Conserned in Kentucky,
FuzzieDuckE
Dear Fuzzie,
I actually did go to Kentucky once! I saw a horse farm too.
I thought the people there were very nice, even the hillbillies. I suppose I should put this picture up on my website, though. Someday I'll get around to it.
Sincerely, Bud
I have some of the old coins/tokens used by the miners. Are they worth
anything?
doug
Dear Doug,
Gosh, I really don't know. When I went to visit a coal mine in West Virgina the company store had been closed a long time. You could try asking the nice people at the National Scrip Collectors Association, though. They probably know a lot more about it than me.
Sincerely, Bud
hey, nice photos,
I'm just a guy stuck in the moldy adirondack mountains of New York State
and I'm seeing my first sunshine in a week! So, it sure was fun to escape to
the wonderful worlds of Bud's travels!
I loved the pictures and envy Bud for his worldliness!
I though he looked a little uncomfortable with the watermelons though.
Lee
Dear Lee,
Most people don't have to be stuck anywhere if they really don't want to be. Going places is great. You can fly or take a train or a boat or a car. Even if you don't have any money for those things, maybe you can take a really long walk. It might take a while to walk out of the Adirondacks, though. I'm glad it's sunny there now.
I like watermelon, okay. Spitting out the seeds isn't fun for me, though.
Sincerely, Bud
Hi Bud!
I saw your picture in the paper not too long ago. I just recently
moved to Baltimore and now live north
of town in the Hunt Valley area. I would like to meet you. I have been
searching for my son for quite some time now. I know, I don't want to
get my hopes up, but wood'en it be something. Please call (xxx-xxx-xxxx) and
we can plan a time for you to come out to my house.
Here's hoping it's true,
Sussie (as in: "If you knew Sussie, like I ......")
Dear Sussie,
It's not safe for kids to go meet strangers that write to them over the internet.
Sincerely, Bud
Dear Bud --
I had the pleasure of making your acquaintance at the American Visionary Arts Museum
while you waited for the parade of art cars to begin. Was this your first
ArtScape? Did you enjoy it? Did you get around to see all the events
and hear the music?
Take care.
MaryBeth
Dear Mary Beth,
It was nice to meet you too. I have been to Artscape a couple of times before. It is a lot of fun. It is impossible to see ALL the events and stuff because so much is happening at the same time. It gets hard to choose! The art cars in the car show is always my favorite, though.
Sincerely, Bud
