Hilary Mockewich was born December 1980 in Philadelphia, PA. Originally from Evesham,
New Jersey, he now resides in Philadelphia. He attended Burlington County College from 2000 – 2001, Scuola Lorenzo de
Medici in Firenze Italia, fall 2001, and is currently attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
In fall of 2005, Hilary will be attending the University of Pennsylvania where he will earn his Bachelors of Fine Arts.
Hilary is an ornamental designer, working primarily, although not exclusively,
for Catholic Churches. Among his commissions is work for St. Mary’s in Conshohocken, St. Charles’ in Drexel Hill,
Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of the Rosery, and St. Augustine’s in Philadelphia. His ornamentation portfolio includes
examples of accomplished marbleizing for both his secular and ecclesiastical clients. It also contains examples of various
painted stencils he researched and designed to recreate the lost original ornamentation of many churches. The execution of
these commissions begins with meeting and then working in conjunction with the clergy, parishioners, and planning boards.
Hilary first starts his work by researching the particular ornamentation or decoration for the individual circumstance, he
then presents visual examples of his studies to the client, and then sets about to restoring or re-create the original beauty
that, in many cases, has been removed or concealed. Church restoration and decoration is something that inspires him because
he is able to contribute a profound and sincere experience to these endeavors due in part to his Catholic upbringing. Hilary
is co- founder of "Capella Painting and Statuary".
The production of classical and illusionist art is the enterprise that concerns
Hilary most. To this end, he has studied and worked under Anthony Visco; and is currently studying under, and working with
Patrick Connors. With strong representationist masters as Anthony Visco and Patrick Connors, Hilary’s style is a personal
interpretation of the Italian Renaissance School of drawing, and a classic French Ecole of painting. He has a deep respect
and admiration for the classical, and illusionist schools of western art.
