This page show what happens when your trailer has more lamps in the parking light circuit than the headlight switch will support. The wire and the connection in the back of the switch melt.

Connector removed and bypass wire soldered in place

When there is to great a load on the headlight switch due to a large number of lamps on a trailer the wire and connector at the rear of the switch will melt. I cut away the connector to get access to the prong in the switch and soldered a wire there. I also cut away the connector that attached to the switch to give clearance for this wire. Connected the new jumper wire and the old orange wire to correct the meltdown and then relayed the trailer lights off a seperate circuit to reduce the load on the switch. The piece laying on the switch is the old connector and some of thw melted wire.
